Israels Right to Defend

The following is a post from Eli Hertz who hits the bullseye with his commentary of the War in Gaza – Operation Anud Anan:
United Nations Security Council (UNSC) resolutions and International treaties define crimes against humanity as the “participation in, and knowledge of, a widespread or systematic attack against a civilian population, and the multiple commissions of [such] acts … against any civilian population.”

These international binding instruments go-on to impose uniform mandatory counter-terrorist obligations on all states to “bring to justice the perpetrators, organizers, and sponsors of terrorist attacks and stresses that those responsible for aiding, supporting or harboring the perpetrators, organizers and sponsors of these acts will be held accountable.

There is no escape clause – UNSC repeats “its unequivocal condemnation of all acts, methods and practices of terrorism as criminal and unjustifiable, regardless of their motivation, in all their forms and manifestations, wherever and by whomever committed.” Terrorist organizations such as Hamas that kidnap Israelis, blow up and destroy public buses, murder young people at cafés and discos, and school outings, alongside indiscriminate around-the-clock shelling of hundreds of Katyusha, Qassam, and Grad rockets targeting civilian populations in Israel, are clearly committing Crimes Against Humanity – acts of terrorism for which the UNSC under Chapter VII of the UN Charter directs everyone to fight terrorism by all means.

International law leaves no room to question Israel’s right to defend its citizens against systematic and sustained terrorist attacks launched from Gaza, by Hamas. Israel’s reaction to aggression is nothing more than a measured, fair response designed “to effectively terminate the attack [s]” upon it by terrorists supported by Iran, Syria, and Lebanon, in order to “prevent its recurrence.” Israel is far from using all means in fighting terrorism, as required by UNSC.

Israel Arming EL AL with Counter-measures

Israel, heeding warning signs of attacks against Israeli citizens and transportation is running to secure Israeli airspace.

By Reuters, HAARETZ

Israel has accelerated the installation of anti-missile defenses on its airliners, a security official told Reuters on Friday, seeing an enhanced risk of attack by militants using looted Libyan arms. The security official’s comment came after Haaretz reported last month that improved quality of anti-aircraft missiles held by Hamas in Gaza is increasingly worrying the Israeli defense establishment. El Al emergency landing – May 23, 2011.  Hamas, the report indicated, recently managed to smuggle relatively advanced Russian missiles, which were looted from Libyan military warehouses, into the Gaza Strip.

On Friday, officials said Jets flown by El Al and two other Israeli carriers are being equipped with a locally made system known as C-Music that uses a laser to “blind” heat-seeking missiles, the official said, giving a 2013 target for fitting most of the fleet.  As a stop-gap, Israel is adapting air force counter-measures for use aboard civilian planes, said the official, who declined to elaborate on the technologies involved, or to be identified. “We have long been aware of the threat and were ahead of the rest of the world in preparing for it. Libya has meant government orders to step things up even further,” the official said, citing intelligence assessments that chaos during the North African nation’s uprising against Muammar Gaddafi allowed trafficking of Libyan shoulder-fired missiles to Palestinians and al Qaeda-linked groups in the Egyptian Sinai.

Israel began deploying another system, “Flight Guard”, on El Al after al Qaeda tried to shoot down a planeload of Israeli tourists in Kenya in 2002. Flight Guard’s use of diversionary flares set off safety concerns abroad and the Israelis turned to C-Music, manufactured by Elbit Systems Ltd.  According to the Israeli official, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government is covering the $1 million to $1.5 million that it costs to fit C-Music to each plane.  The bathtub-sized pods, built into the planes’ bodies, increase drag in flight, meaning “a few million [dollars] a year” in extra fuel expenses, the official said, adding that this, too, would be borne by the government.

Israel’s main international gateway, Ben-Gurion Airport, is 10 km from the occupied West Bank where, along with the Islamist-ruled Gaza Strip, Palestinians want a state.  The Israeli official said he had no information indicating the presence of anti-aircraft missiles in the West Bank — unlike in Gaza, which has seen an influx of smuggled weaponry from Egypt since Israel withdrew settlers and soldiers in 2005. The official said Netanyahu had, in closed-door discussions, described C-Music as a way to help reassure the Israeli public about security should the government one day return occupied land to the Palestinians under a peace agreement. Asked for confirmation, Netanyahu’s spokesman, Mark Regev, quoted him as saying that “in any possible peace deal there have to be effective security arrangements that can deal with a range of security threats, including shoulder-fired missiles”.

Israel also wants to protect traffic to its small airport in the Red Sea resort of Eilat, which abuts Jordan and Egypt, where Islamist militants have operated in the past. Armed infiltrators killed eight Israelis on the Egyptian border on Aug. 18.

Shalit Deal Violates Jewish Law

In conjunction with the previous post which we posted a few days ago about the mis-guided attempt to free Gilad Shalit all the while further endangering the State of Israel, we are reprinting a Arutz Sheva  article about Rav Dov Lior’s position paper on the matter who maintains that the deal violates Jewish Law.  We Agree.

The rabbi of Kiryat Arba – Hevron, Rav Dov Lior, published a position paper Sunday evening in which he explains that the Shalit deal contradicts Halakha, or Jewish Law.

“There is no doubt that capitulating to the terrorists’ blackmail endangers our brothers, the residents of our land, as has happened in the past, when freed terrorists went back to carrying out terror, and this is a clear danger to the nation in Zion.”  “We cannot save one person and endanger, with near certainty, an entire public,” Rav Lior wrote. “The terrorists have a goal of humiliating Israel, and this has been proven by the way they have behaved until now, and who knows if they will not try to torpedo the entire move and all that has been done was simply for humiliating the State of Israel. Therefore their demands should not be met.”

This does not mean that every effort should not be made for Shalit’s freedom, Rav Lior added. “For instance, taking away the terrorists’ ‘hotel’ conditions in jail and stopping all assistance to the Hamas government in Gaza, placing a complete closure and other means that need not be specified here, but not through actions that endanger and humiliate the Nation of Israel.”

Rav Ovadiah Yosef, the former Chief Rabbi and one of the most highly respected Halakhic authorities in the land, supports the Shalit deal and has said, after receiving news of the deal, that he wishes to see Gilad Shalit under a wedding canopy soon.

End of Article

By freeing convicted murderers to secure the freedom of young Gilad Shalit, the State of Israel has basically pardoned these criminals of thier horrendous crimes.   Any rabbi who would agree to denying justice to the victims and their families and further endangering more Israelis should consider retirement.

THE CRUCIBLE

The Ominious Beat of Distant War Drums Beats ever Louder

Philistine FlagWhat is happening to Israel can be described as a crucible, a metallurgical term for a  container for a heat-resistant container in which ores or metals are melted and impurities are removed.  It is also metaphorically a severe trial, ordeal or place or set of circumstances where people or things are subjected to forces that test them and often make them change.  And change is what Israel must do.  It is confronted by a changing world around it, who see (incorrectly) Israel as a stumbling block to peace or some diseased organism that must be removed from the landscape.  The war drums are beating louder and loader.  The Muslim world is erupting throughout the Middle East.  Egypt regularly incites it’s people to murder Jews and Israeli’s.  Iran is a growing nuclear threat, that must be dealt with quickly.  Hamas seeing that it’s Syrian sponsor may not be in power much longer is trying to make peace with Fatah in a last ditch attempt to establish a Philistine state and ultimately destroy Israel.  In a few days the PA will try to push the UN into announcing a new terrorist state in Israel’s backyard.  And now Turkey is threatening Israel militarily.

In what can only be described as a deliberate attempt to bring about a confrontation with the Jewish state, the Erdogan government sharply ratcheted up its threat of war on Israel Monday, Sept. 12 with a report that three Turkish Navy frigates are to sail for the eastern Mediterranean “to ensure freedom of navigation and confront Israeli warships if necessary.”
Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan : “If Turkish warships encounter an Israeli military ship outside Israel’s 12-mile territorial waters, they will advance up to 100 meters from the ship and disable its weapon system.”

The threat bluntly applied to Israel’s naval enforcement of its UN-approved blockade of the Gaza Strip. Debkafile’s military sources report that this is more than a threat of belligerence against Israeli naval shipping; it is also an attempt to dictate the terms of its threatened military engagement at sea with Israel and arbitrarily lay down the outer limits of Israel’s territorial waters. One of its goals is to deprive Israel’s deep sea gas wells of naval protection. [Source – Debkafile.com]

It appears that Turkey is facing off with Israel to position itself as the lead Islamic nation against Israel, a position coveted by Iran.  Turkey, if one remembers their history was once the Islamic Ottoman empire and place of the Khalifah (Caliphate).  Are the unified Muslim hordes set to begin to march again?  We could yet see the march of the army of the Black Flags, but that may yet be some time off, God permitting.

While this information appears to give Turkey a somewhat upper hand, and the number of submarines currently active in Israeli inventory may seem small, but the Dolphin class submarines are indeed very formidable platforms.  There are no guarantee’s in war, and the IDF has shown itself to be very resilient and formidable.  Plus the will of HaShem adds a certain bit of uncertainty to Turkey’s chances of overcoming Israel’s naval forces.

Israel Must Annex Judea and Samaria Now!

The Palestinian Fatah leader Mahmoud Abbas is in Europe this week seeking to convince  Spain and Norway  to support the Palestinian bid to sidestep  negotiations with Israel and have the UN General Assembly recognize Palestinian  sovereignty over Judea, Samaria, Jerusalem and Gaza.  Fatah’s gambit, which will be played out at the United Nations  General Assembly, plus  its unity deal with Hamas are clear signs that the time has come for Israel to finally face the music: There  are only two realistic options for dealing with Judea and Samaria.

Either  the Palestinians will take control of Judea and Samaria, or Israel will annex  them.

If Israel allows Fatah/Hamas to move forward with it’s UN gambit, another terror state will be created with will be used as a forward operating base in the continuing war on Israel.  The Jerusalem post reported that  two-thirds of Palestinians  believe that negotiations should not lead to the establishment of the State of  Palestine next to Israel and at peace with the Jewish state. They believe the  establishment of “Palestine” next to Israel should serve as a means for  continuing their war against Israel. The goal of that war is to destroy what’s  left of Israel after the “peace” treaty and gobble it into “Palestine.”  Also noted is that 66%  of Palestinians believe “peace” talks with  Israel should be conducted in bad faith.  75% deny  Jewish ties to Jerusalem, and 80% support  jihad against Jews.  73% support the annihilation of the Jewish people as  called for in the Hamas charter on the basis of Islamic scripture.

2 Children Among 33 Hurt in Multiple Terror Attack; 6 Dead

Today, August 18th 2011,   the anniversary of the 1929 Jerusalem and Hebron massacres 83 years ago,  a four pronged terror attack on innocent Israeli civilians demonstrates that any peace with Fatah and Hamas is out of the question. Two very young children were among the 33 Israelis initially taken to Eilat’s small local Yoseftal Medical Center — the closest hospital — following the quadruple terrorist attack in Israel’s southern region. Seven of the most severely wounded were later airlifted to Be’er Sheva’s Soroka Medical Center. [Source – Arutz Sheva]

In response, Israel has taken the nation to its highest terror alert.  The terror attacks took place along Israel’s border with Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula. The terrorists used automatic, anti-tank weapons, mortars and roadside bombs targeting two Israeli buses and civilians and military vehicles. In light of the terror attacks, the  United Nations decided Thursday to evacuate its foreign personnel from Gaza in fear that Israel will respond and take down known terrorist targets in the Gaza.   Defense Minister Ehud Barak said, adding “These attacks originate in Gaza and we will act against them with full force and resolve.”

Sources in Gaza also reported that Hamas has evacuated the headquarters of its ‘security forces’  fearing Israeli retaliation. The Prime Minister’s Office said Israel’s response to the attack would be swift.

Annex Judea And Samaria

In light of recent events and the push by the PA and certain world governments [such as the Quartet] to establish a terror nation in the midst of the Holy Land, Israel’s only viable option is to annex Judea and Samaria.  This of course will trigger condemnation from world leaders and riots in Israel.  But the other option is  far worse.

A campaign calling for all of Judea and Samaria to be made part of the sovereign state of Israel is  to be launched on Facebook.   As the PA prepares to ask the United Nations General Assembly to declare a Palestinian state unilaterally, a pressure campaign will begin Wednesday asking Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to unilaterally annex the West Bank. The campaign is the brainchild of Likud MK Danny Danon, who has sponsored a bill that would begin the process of making all of Judea and Samaria part of the sovereign state of Israel. The campaign will begin on Facebook, spread to top Israeli websites, and perhaps after that to the streets.  The campaign will call for the Israeli government to respond to the Palestinians’ unilateral step by taking a Zionist unilateral action of annexing the Jewish communities in Judea and Samaria,” MK Danon said.

Please take the time to write Prime Minister Netanyahu and encourage him to do the right thing and make Judea and Samaria part of the State of Israel that it should have been all along.  Tell him Israel and the world cannot afford another terrorist nation in the Middle East.  Israel has a historic and legal right to Judea and Samaria.

Preparing For the Third Intafada

Historical Facts on the Real Occupation of Israel

I can never tire of bringing this point home.  The claim by the Palestinians and the surrounding Arab nations is that the State of Israel is occupying their land.   But who did Israel take the land from?  There was no Palestinian State in 1967.  Jordan was at the time occupying Judea and Samaria and had no claim to the Land or any recognized legal right to it.  Jordan in 1948, in an attempt to destroy the fledgling State of Israel, Terrorist Palestinian Statejoined the other Arab armies in a war against Israel, and through that ILLEGAL action came to be occupiers of the area of Judea and Samaria, refered to by them as the WEST BANK (of Jordan).  None of the nations of the world recognized Jordans occupation as legitimate, not even her neighboring Arab states.

Previous to 1948, after World War I when the Ottoman Empire disintegrated, the area of Jordan and Israel was given the English to administer.  Lord Balfour, the British Foreign Minister, having recognized the Jewish Peoples ancient cultural and historic ties to the area, set aside the whole of what was know as Trans-Jordan for the establishment of a national homeland for them.

In June of 1967,  responding to threats of annihilation from the surrounding Arab countries, Israel launched a pre-emptive strike against it’s enemies, including Jordan who who was illegally occupying Judea and Samaria.  It was the illegal actions of the Arab nations which has caused all the trouble.  First with Jordan occupying land in 1948 and in 1967 when the Arab nations once again  trying to annihilate the State of Israel.  In response Israel drove the Jordanians out of Judea and Samaria.

Political Slight-of-Hand

Today, there is a huge push to announce the creation of a Palestinian State.  Many world leaders are being asked to support such an announcement.  Others are not willing to go to such extreme measures outside of negotiations with Israel.  In fact, such an announcement may trigger another Middle East war.  Of great concern is the agreement between Hamas and the PA to form a unity government.  While there are serious problems and challenges between the two, and surface appearances seem to suggest that a unity government will not materialize, due diligence is called for.  Just this week the House Committee on Foreign Affairs sub-committee on the Middle East and South Asia held testimony concerning the American aid to the PA.  In these, American government officials painted a rosy picture concerning the PA and Hamas agreement.  Their testimony was basically that we need not worry about the Hamas Fatah (PA) Reconciliation Agreement, since ‘nothing is happening on the ground.’

However General Muller, United States Security Coordinator for Israel and the PA, admitted when questioned that the US provided no oversight concerning the PA security services  and any vetting was being done by Canada and Europe.  When asked for a report on Canada and European oversight, the General could not give an answer.  This is shocking considering  the US is training and providing funding for the Palestinian Security Forces (PSF).  But the situation is far more dangerous than even that admission.

The Ties That Bind

Blood Money

Blood Money

The US provides 77 million dollars annually to Gaza.   US law clearly outlines that any assistance to the PA security services be predicated on the basis that the PA is in conflict with Hamas an other FTO’s (Foriegn Terrorist Organizations and if any cooperation is uncovered, American aid or funding would dry up.  But the vetting process used to determine appropriate recipients for US funding, only screens for affiliation or membership in the Taliban or al-Qaeda.  The vetting process does not include Hamas who is on the FTO list.  This cannot be an oversight but deliberate obfuscation by the American Government and the Obama Regime.  President Obama appears to have accepted the Fatah Hamas Reconciliation Agreement as if this is the present reality.  This acceptance is in clear violation of American Law.  When David Bedein,  Bureau Chief of the Israel Resource News Agency and as the director of the Center for Near East Policy Research asked the American Consulate what would be America’s next step if the PSF would begin cooperating with Hamas?  The Consulate refused to answer the question

Chairman Abbas (PA) has stated over and over again that he would not recognize Israel as a Jewish state.  Considering the roots from which the PA grew out of, this comes as no surprise.  The PA Security  Services is an outgrowth of the Palestinian Liberation Army who sole purpose was the liberation of Palestine.  Even the proposed Palestinian Constitution declares all of Palestine as theirs.  The PSF is merely the modern equivalent of the old PLA guard.

Setting the Precidents for the Third Intafada

Is is now clear that the US Government is clandestinely pursuing a policy of supporting the Patah Hamas reconciliation.  The fact that the vetting process is handled by other countries gives the US plausible deniability while allowing for  Hamas/PA cooperation once the Palestinian State is declared.  Given the world’s disposition toward Israel, it seems unlikely that the Obama regime would quibble over any Hamas/PA cooperation once the UN General Assembly recognizes the Palestinian State who in turn orders Israel off their land.  Attention will then focus on forcing Israel to comply.

Palestinian Security ForcesDangerous precedents have already been established in how the PA security forces operate within Judea and Samaria.  On April 24, 2011, the PA security forces murdered Ben Yosef Livnat, nephew of  Limor Livnat, Israeli Minister of Culture and Sports, while he was praying at Josephs Tomb.  The Israelis, after 6 weeks of  investigation, finally concluded it was a terrorist attack.  One month earlier on March 13th, two Palestinian men from the American trained and supported Palestinian security forces were sent by their commanding officer to infiltrate Itamar.  The Fogel family was horrifically murdered in such a way that would have made Charles Manson proud.

It is now clear that the American government is complicit in these terrible murders.  There is no accountability by the US, which now appears to be by design.  Imagine the situation in Judea and Samaria once the UN proclaims a Palestinian State and the IDF is ordered to leave the West Bank.  The Palestinian security forces would then have the right and authority to patrol all of Judea and Samaria, and begin forcing Jews to abandon their homes.  It is reasonable to assume that some IDF units would not leave their fellow Jews to face the PSF alone.   That situation could escalate to open war with the PA asking the UN to send in troops to remove the Jewish ‘occupiers’ from the borders of the Palestinian State.

What Can Be Done?

While this situation appears to be too big for anyone of us to change, we cannot sit by and wait on God.  HaShem expects us to do our part.  David Bedein points out that the House Foreign Affairs Middle East Sub-Commitee has fiduciary veto power over American foreign policy.   If they receive enough well thought out and articulated arguments from American citizens, funding to the PA secirity forces can be cut off without approval from the Administration.

In truth, only HaShem knows the actual chain of events that will occur after September.  This Rosh Hashana (September 28) begins the Jewish New Year 5772, which is the Jewish 2012.  The Rabbi’s and Sages of Israel assign that date with the time of Jacob’s Trouble.  Christian prophecy (Revelation 12) foretells of a certain celestial event that will be pictured in the heavens which begins the persecution of the Jewish people. That ‘sign’ is scheduled to appear this Rosh Hashana.
