The Christians Foretell of the Army of al-Mahdi

As I have been researching for a possible up-coming book (I really haven’t decided quite yet) I have uncovered an an interesting prophecy from the Christian bible which bears a striking resemblance to the Islamic teaching about the al-Mahdi’s Army of the Black Flags.

But Before I begin I must state that prophecy is not confined to the prophets of Israel alone, but can be seen in many of the ancient cultures. Many ancient cultures exhibit deep profound wisdom. This also true of the Christian tradition, though I personally am not a Christian.

However, the prophecies contained in the Hebrew Bible are stand above the prophecy and wisdom of the nations, and have shown themselves to be accurate in all their details. A Jewish proverb states:

“If a person tells you that there is wisdom among the nations, believe him, as it says in Obadiah, “I will destroy the wise ones from Edom and the intelligence from Mount Esau.” If one says that there is Torah among the nations, believe him not.”

The Torah text, which has been hand written and passed down in an unbroken chain of transmission from the time of Moshe to this very day.  It’s veracity has been established time and time again when scoffers sought to disprove it as a fabrication of fables and stories.  Each time the Tanakh has been challenged, evidence has come forth to repudiate the claims of supposed men and women of science and re-establish itself as the exclusive word of the Creator.

The Torah reminds us that if a prophet foretells of an event that comes to pass but tries to convinces you to follow after other gods [including practice of their ways, customs or traditions], you are not to heed that prophet but Israel was to put him to death (Deuteronomy 13).

This tells us that even idolators can even possess the prophetic gift and that the foretelling and fulfillment of a prophecy does not make you a spokesman for GOD. Many people today believe that some one who heals or predicts the future must be sent from HaShem, but as you can see that idea has no basis in the Word of HaShem and those who follow such false prophets are fools.

The Muhajadeen of the End of Days

The Apocalypse foretells of battles and wars of immense proportions.  In the 14th chapter we find that a future siege on Jerusalem would case a bloodbath 200 miles long with blood and bodies piled up as high as a horses bridle.  Years ago this seemed far-fetched and boggled the mind. The 9th chapter informs us of an army of astronomical proportions which originates from the Euphrates River.

There was a time when Christian scholars did not believe that the immense size of this army was a literal number of 200 million.  This was due in fact to the reality that at the time the prophecy was made there were not even 200 million people living on earth let alone an army of this size.

“…one saying to the sixth angel who had the trumpet, “Release the four angels who are bound at the great river Euphrates.” And the four angels, who had been prepared for the hour and day and month and year, were released, so that they would kill a third of mankind. The number of the armies of the horsemen was two hundred million…”

That is no longer a problem.  The earth’s population is reaching 7 billion and it is estimated that of that number 1.5 billion are Muslims.  It is currently estimated of these, 10 – 15% are radicalized.  add to this the number of forced conversions throughout the world during the End of Days and 200 million is quite achievable.

I believe this army is the dreaded Army of Black Flags spoken of in the Islamic literature.  This army will come forth from Khorusan and march on Jerusalem under the flag of Jihad.  Khorusan as we shall see is the place of ancient Magog.

Muhammad said: “If you see the black flags coming from Khurasan, join that army, even if you have to crawl over ice, for that is the army of the Imam al-Mahdi and no one can stop that army until it reaches Jerusalem.”

There is view-point that the armed Islamic resistance that is resisting occupation in Afghanistan (aka the Taliban) constitute the emerging army from Khorasan that will eventually ‘liberate’ the Holy Land. They are called the Abdal who will give the Bai’ah or pledge of allegiance to Imam al-Mahdi in Makkah (Mecca).

Magog is mentioned in a prophecy about Gog and Magog War that is in the book of Ezekiel. Although most of the biblical prophets gave prophecies about this war, only the book of Ezekiel uses these names Gog and Magog:

And the word of HaShem came to me to say: Son of Adam, face yourself in the direction of Gog, Land of the Magog, main president of Meshech and Tuval, and prophesy on him. And you shall say: So said HaShem G-d, I am coming to you, Gog, main president of Meshech and Tuval.

And I shall send fire in Magog… and they shall know that I am HaShem.

There is much confusion in identifying where Magog is.  We believe Christianity is blind-sided by their own theology and because of their misplaced distrust in Judaism. Our Sages who penned the Mishna, the Midrash and the Talmud tell us who is Magog, and have given us names as clues.

The name Magog is mentioned two other times in the Hebrew Bible, besides the two we just looked at in Ezekiel.

The sons of Yefet: Gomer and Magog and Maday and Yavan and Tuval and Meshech and Tiras.

Magog was the name of the son of Jephet the grandson of Noah, and the people of Magog were his descendants, and were named Magog after him. According to our Sages, most of the people’s in the list in Ezekiel stem from the line of Yefet.

Our Sages interpreted in a few places the names of these peoples. The Babylonian Talmud in tractate Yoma identifies the names of the settlements mentioned in the Tanakh this way:

“Magog is Kandia” -Babylonian Talmud, tractate Yoma 10A

“…Magog (is) Gitya…” Jerusalemite Talmud

According to Midrash Bereshit Rabba.  Magog is Girmanya.

Rabbi Yonathan Ben Uziel who translated the Tanakh to Aramic also interprets the name of Magog as Germania.

Interestingly, when Yonathan Ben Uziel translated the prophecy of Gog and Magog , he refrained from translating the names using only the Hebrew names (Magog, Meshech, Tuval). However in Ezekiel 38:6 he changed his method and translated Magog as the “state of Germamia.

The oldest Jewish interpretation to “Magog”, other than our Sages’, is by Josephus Flavius, AKA Yosef Ben Matityahyu and Yosef Ben Guryon. In Antiquities of the Jews, Josephus also writes how the peoples emerged from Noah and his descendants, and so he writes:

Magog founded those that from him were named Magogites, but who are by the Greeks called Scythians.

Scholars generally regard the Scythians as Iranian nomadic peoples, speaking an Iranian language. Sistan, the name for the Persian language, comes from the Old Persian Sakastana, meaning “Land of the Sakas”. The Sakas are considered to be a branch of Scythians by most scholars. Saka is the usual Persian term, while Scythian is a Greek term.

The Scythians first appear in Assyrian annals as Ishkuzai, reported as pouring in from the north some time around 700 BCE and settling in Ascania and modern Azerbaijan as far as to the southeast of Lake Urmia. The Scythian tribes mentioned in the Greek sources resided in the steppe between the Dnieper and Don rivers.

Now even if Josephus said that the Magogites tribes are the Scythian tribes, it not much help in establishing their land of origin the land of Magog.

Our Sages, differing from Josephus, interpreted the names of the original lands of each descendant that were settled after the biblical Flood and the land that was initially occupied by the Magogites – land of Magog – should probably be the origin state of the Scythian tribes.

Rabbi Yehi’el Tzvi Hirshenzon’s book Seven Wisdoms (1883) devoted  part of his book to the locations of Noah’s descendants’ lands when they began their settlement, according to the words of our Sages:

“On Germamia”:

Their intention was the land of Kermania, south east of Babylon, and you can find it in the map of the Greek Rulers, in the south of Kermania Desert (which is called now in the new map Die Zaltz Wiste Fon Kermaan, and the main city until today is called Kerman), to the east of the tongue of the Persian Sea….”

And in Midrash Rabba and Yehonathan Ben Uziel and Translation of Rav Yosef it’s called actually “Germania” (and Herodotus, the Greek writer also calls the lands as Germania of Persia: “Persicus Germanus”, and don’t mix this Germania with the European Germania (Deutschland), because that one was called in the Talmud Edom’s Germania to separate it from this Germania).

And as it’s seen, this land in the old times was extended until the Indus River, and included within it the land that is called today Baludshistan… and it will also border in the northeast with the Himalaya mountains and Indikush mountains, and Tzongling mountains are extension to Indikush mountains, but they got their eastern name from the inhabitants of China there.

…and in the Babylonian Talmud Magog is Kandia, is a copier mistake, as already mentioned by the author of Tevu’ot HaAretz, because Kandia is a newer name that was given after the Talmud to the island Creta or Telechine. But the mistake should be corrected to Kidya, and this is Gytia as mentioned above.

The land that our Sages called Germania is a Persian land in the area of the Persian Gulf, that swallows an area called Baludshistan, and that land is bordering in the east with the Indus River, and in the north with the Himalayas. The region named Baluchistan is actually divided today between three countries: Iran, Pakistan and Afghanistan. In western Pakistan there’s also a province names Baluchistan, next to the Iranian Baluchistan.

In today’s Iran there is a big province called Kerman, with population of over two million people. The capital of the province is also called by this name, and today more than 400,000 people live there. This province, Kerman, that was probably the original land of Magog, includes many archaeological cities, that their timings matches more or less the period of the end of The Biblical Flood.

As written above, our Sages used two different names alternatively to describe Magog’s land. The first one was versions of the name Germania, and we understood now where it is, while the second name is versions of then name Gytia. In the time of ancient Persia, the area known as Baluchistan was in the 6th century BCE as SattaGydia or SattaKydia.

Based on the above information the actual location of the Land of Magog is the areas of Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan.  These area’s are a hotbed of radicalized jihadists who have been a problem for the two largest superpowers – Russia and the United States.

This area is also known in Islamic sources as Khourusan, the place where the al-Mahdi’s Army of the Black flags marches from.  We believe that Christian prophetic tradition identifies this army as the Kings of the East:

“Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates and it’s water was dried up so that the way of the Kings of the East might be prepared….to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty.”

According to the reference from Britannica 1997:

KHURASAN,. The historical region extended, along the north, from the Amu Darya(OxusRiver) westward to the Caspian Sea and, along the south, from the fringes of the central Iranian deserts eastward to central Afghanistan. Arab geographers even spoke of its extending to the boundaries of India.

This definition tells that the following area is included in the historical region of Ancient Khorasan.

·Northern Part of Iran ,

·Afghanistan,

·North Western Part of Pakistan

·Southern parts of Central Asian Turkish states like Turkmenistan andUzbekistan.

Part of the demographic make-up of the area of Khourusan is the Pashtun tribe of Afghanistan.  The Pashtun’s (also called Pathans) are a fierce nomadic people who some, including myself, believe are remnants of the so-called lost tribes of Israel.  Indeed they occupy the regions of Pakistan, Iran, India and Kashmir.

The Pashtun Tribe of Afghanistan remains as a strong, warlike tribe, that has remained untamed throughout history. They are the only tribe that has not been subjugated to major imperial forces of history, including Soviet Russia and the United States today. These ancient Israelites have now become, as Bilal Khan wrote:

“The only group (Pashtun Tribes of Afghanistan) that is warlike, undefeated and untamed throughout the course of history, staunch in religious fervor, filled with honor and pride and is unforgiving of its enemy; one that will fight its enemy until one of them is dead.”

The Pathani tribesmen, the largest tribe of the Afghani people, declare that they are descended from the tribes of Israel and call themselves Bani-Israel. Rabbi Avraham HaKohen, (of the Jewish community in the Afghani city of Harath) recounts hearing the Afghani king Habib Allah Han proclaim, “I am from the Tribe of Benjamin.”

Other compelling indicators are the clan names names of the Afghani tribe are Israelite in origin:  Ghaghi tribesmen claim their name is from derived from Gad the son of Jacob. Others include: Rabbani (Reuben); Levoni (Levi); Ephriti (Ephraim); Yusuf Si (Joseph). And Jewish names such as Israel are found among many Pathani.

The Pashtuns while practicing a form of Islam, when asked, say they are not Muslims and follow a religious code called Pashtanwalli, a very strict type of ‘Mosaic law’ combined with Islamic customs.

As for Jewish customs, the Pathani do not shave thier peot or sidelocks in accordance with the Torah – Don’t shave the sides of your head . They rest on the Shabbat, and even light candles on Friday evenings.

Who is the Beast that He should be Worshipped?

And the dragon stood on the sand of the seashore. Then I saw a beast coming up out of the sea, having ten horns and seven heads, and on his horns were ten diadems, and on his heads were blasphemous names. And the beast which I saw was like a leopard, and his feet were like those of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. And the dragon gave him his power and his throne and great authority.  I saw one of his heads as if it had been slain, and his fatal wound was healed. And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast;  they worshiped the dragon because he gave his authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, ” Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?”

The question is rhetorical.  We must recognize that the Christian religion began as a sectarian offshoot of Judaism and it’s primary leadership were Jew’s who were brought up in 2nd Temple Judaism.  In fact there was no Pauline Christianity inside of the Holy Land prior to the second century.  The point I’m making is that the person who wrote the book of Revelation would have used the same images and symbols that the book of Daniel employs including Jewish interpretations.

It is clear that the beast of Revelation 13 is the fourth beast of Daniels vision, but in a composite form which includes the other three empires and subsequent Jewish exiles.  Therefore the beast of Revelation is not a person but an empire, which we believe is a resurrected Islamic Khalifah.  This is the interpretation based on Daniel.

The problem we are immediately faced with is the perception that the beast is worshipped and therefore it must be a person.  That perception is a false one reinforced by our modern understanding of spiritual things. ‘Worship’ is a modern concept, not a Jewish one.  When the modern person thinks of worship, most will conjure up a definition based on belief in a person.  Worship is given to one you believe in or have faith in.

Biblically, this definition is incomplete at best.  If you were to take a survey of the biblical material, you would soon discover that the words often translated as ‘worship’ in reality reflect an ancient practice known as prostration.  During the biblical period, Jews prayed on their knees and on their faces.  This practice reflected the idea of obeisance.  The worshipper prostrated himself as an act of submission to honor God.

With this ancient understanding we are better able to grasp what the passage is really saying:

And the whole earth was amazed and followed after the beast [Islamic Empire];  they prostrated themselves in submission to the dragon [Allah]because he gave his authority to the beast [Islamic Khalifah]; and they submitted to the beast [Islamic khalifah], saying, ” Who is like the beast, and who is able to wage war with him?

Iran preparing now for Armageddon

Reza Kahlili of WND has written a article on Iran’s preparations for war, specifically a Gog Magog war led by the Al-Mahdi, the Shiites legendary 12 Imam who according to Islamic prophecy will conquer the nations of the infidels.   Reza reports in his article that Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has held several secret meetings with his economic and military advisers in recent days to prepare for the possibility of war with the United States. Khamenei has been heard to say that the coming of the  Shiites’ 12th Imam Mahdi is near and that specific actions need to be taken to protect the Islamic regime for upcoming events. Mahdi, according to Shiite belief, will reappear at the time of Armageddon, a Gog Magog war spoken of in the Prophets.

Soldiers of the Mahdi

He has noted that certain elements within the Revolutionary Guards and Basij have been trained under a task force called “Soldiers of Imam Mahdi” and they will bear the responsibility of security and protecting the regime against uprisings.  The plan by the leader calls for total control of Tehran, the capital where the presence of the Basij and Hezbollah militias would be quite visible so that no one would dare to challenge the regime. Khamenei’s  measures are based either on an understanding that war could be imminent or that the regime has decided to announce it has nuclear capability and is getting ready for a possible reaction from Israel or America.

Ayatollah Mesbah Yazdi, an influential cleric and a radical Twelver, previously had stated that Khamenei ascends to the sky every year to take direction from Imam Mahdi, and sources close to the cleric have disclosed that Khamenei has been ordered by Imam Mahdi to continue with the nuclear program despite worldwide objection as it will facilitate his coming.

Last March, a Iranian secret documentary, “The Coming Is Upon Us,” was revealed to depict Khamenei as the mythical figure who creates the environment for the reappearance of Mahdi by leading Iran to destroy Israel.

Recently, Israel released a series of photographsthat are intended to convey a stern warning to Iran to tread carefully.  The photos released by the Israeli defense establishment of an Arrow 3 anti-missile defense system test as well as other pictures of Israel’s military vigilance.

While it is biblically debatable whether the Islamic Coalition of Psalm 83 is a separate event from the Gog Magog Wars spoken of in the Prophets, both events show HaShem’s Hand in protecting Israel from the surrounding nations.  It should also be noted that Psalm 83 references events in the time of Devorah (Judges) which depict an ancient battle in the area of Megiddo.  It may very well be that the wars depicted in Psalm 83, Ezekiel 38 and the Armageddon battle from the Christian texts are referring to the same series of events.  Regardless, Israel will emerge from these catastrophes intact and stronger than before.

Rumors of Gog Magog

The world is perhaps standing on the edge of the abyss and is virtually on brink of another major war. One which may kick off in Iran. Though sources may disagree on when the conflict would begin, most are convinced that it will begin.  And will surely draw Russia into the conflict.

In a report on Pravda.ru,  Anton Krivenyuk of the Georgia Times  believes the war may begin when Israel strikes Iran’s nuclear weapons capability. The United States has been drumming up ‘war fever’ here in the USA and the Obama regime’ will support the attack. If it happens, the new large-scale regional war will become inevitable.

Therefore, many countries in the region will support Iran either directly or by implication. In particular, it goes about China. Chinese President Hu Jintao stated that if the USA or any other country attacked Iran, China would take responsive measures immediately. As for Moscow, sources at Russia’s Defense Ministry said that the forces in the region had already been mobilized in case of a possible war.  In a previous post we demonstrated the gematrial connection between China and Iran [See Article Here].

The Southern Caucasus borders on Iran. Russia’s borders are near the country too. Armenia and Azerbaijan  border on Iran as well.  Georgia Times and a scientist of politics of the Tbilisi State University (Georgia) tried to predict what consequences the armed conflict may lead to for separate countries of the region.

Georgian scientist of politics, Solomon Lebanoidze, is pessimistic about the future of the region. As he said in an interview with Georgia Times, the war in Iran is very likely to happen. “It may happen that this war may grow into World War III. No one is going to stay aside. There are many nuances here that will not give any country of the Caucasus an opportunity to remain a serene harbor,” the expert said.

It will not be possible for Russia not to be involved in the conflict and may form a military alliance with China in case of the conflict. The alliance may gradually develop into the anti-Western coalition of forces against Israel and the USA, if they get involved in the war too.

In the Tanakh, China is called – Sin.  It’s gematria is 120 (not using the sofit form of the Nun).  China has a long standing relationship with the Islamic Republic of Iran.  China has been helping them since the 1980′s with their nuclear program under the supposed umbrella of peaceful usage.  Iran’s president, Ahmadinejad  also has a gematria value of 120.   In Gematria Ketana, the zero is dropped making it the value of 12, which is the gematria of GOG.   The word time in the last day prophecy is and also equals 120 (12).

Iran’s threat to use nuclear weapons against Israel makes the likelihood of an Israeli first strike more probable, which may be Ahmadinejad’s apocalyptic end game.  If he can get Israel to strike Iran first before ‘Arab Spring Fever’ can erupt in his country, where an estimated 70% of Iranian citizens despise the regime, then an Islamic holy war will erupt in the region.  However it will remain to be seen if it will be the foretold Gog U’Magog Wars.

Turkey’s Erdogan Strengthening Incitement Against Israel

Is this the Christian Anti-Christ?In a tour of the so-called Arab Spring countries, Turkey’s Prime Minister Erdogan, in a speech in Tunisia, stepped up the anti-Israel rhetoric by telling the Tunisian people that Turkey is planning on taking a leading military role in the eastern Mediterranean.  Erdogan told Tunisians on Thursday his country could have frigates and assault vessels in the eastern Mediterranean “at any time” to ensure freedom of movement

.

“Israel will not be able to move in the eastern Mediterranean as it wishes,” Erdogan said at a joint news conference with his counterpart, Interim Prime Minister Beji Caid el Sebsi. “It will see our determination in this regard.”  Israel has chosen not to respond to the implied threat against Israeli interests.

Erdogan who won 50% of the vote in Turkey’s parliamentary elections  back in May, acussed the opposition party of being involved with a anti-democratic, pro-Israeli conspiracy –

“The international media, because they are backed by Israel, wouldn’t be happy with the continuation of the AK Party government,” he said, according to the state-run Anatolian news agency. “The international media, because they are backed by Israel, wouldn’t be happy with the continuation of the AK Party government.”

As the September 23rd bid for Palestinian statehood draws near, Israel finds itself further and further isolated and without friends.  As we draw near to the beginning of the Jewish New Year 5772, what can be only understood as a ‘Convergence’ is taking place.  The rabbi’s teach, as we have noted on our blog many times that the term, time of trouble, in Hebrew has the gematria (numerical value) of 772 and that they also have understood that the Final Redemption would either start or be completed on a Hebrew year of 772 (3772, 4772, 5772…).  It is most noteworthy to understand that Mayan Calendar end date of 2012 has been known to the holy rabbi’s for a long time. It appears that biblical period known as the “Time of Jacob’s Trouble” is the ‘Jewish 2012’ which starts in two weeks on Rosh Hashana, September 28th.

The prophecies of the End of Days may be upon us

There are numerous theories about who is Gog v’Magog, some which have been posting on this blog previously.  There are those who believe that Gog is the Prince (leader) of Turkey and have written extensively on the subject and have taught that we should watch Turkey.

“Gog” is known to be an Anatolian name. It is reasonable to identify him with Gogis (seventh century b.c.e.), king of Lydia, who is called Gugu in the chronicles of Ashurbanipal. Such personage would have been known to the Prophet Ezekiel, who took him as reference in order to point out a determined geographic area: Asia Minor. Precisely such is the area (Anatolia, Asia Minor) that his prophecy under five names (Magog, Meshekh, Tuval, Gomer and Togarmah) intends to make clear. These people were well known to the prophet, and this seems clearly to be the best possible interpretation. [Source –http://www.imninalu.net/G&M.htm]

This interpretation should not be discarded.  It was the Turkish Ottoman Empire that held power for many centuries intil 1917.  The Ottoman Empire was the government of the Islamic Caliphate, which according to Muslim Prophecy is destined to be risen up again.  Erdogan’s tour of the Arab Spring countries may be the beginning of a consolidation of power that may very well culminate in a new Caliphate.  Time will certainly tell.

This very well may be the beginning of the time of redemption, so it is imperative that we seek out HaShem while He may be found as Tanakh tells us.  And while all this sword rattling and threats is very disturbing, yet intriguing, our response to it should be what Judaism has always taught.  Our duty is to commit ourselves to teshuvah, to seek out our own sins and shortcomings, all the while praying for the peace of Jerusalem and the time when Israel is restored to it’s former glory.

The Distant Beat of an Ominious War Drum – Part 2

As reported by this blog and many others on the Internet and Alternative Media, we are moving precariously closer to war with Pakistan who has recently further cemented it’s ties with China.  In May, China warned the United States that any attack on Pakistan is an attack on China.  An while the Bought and Paid For Media will not cover these developments, the US GOV is actively engaged in proxy warfare with Pakistan.  The stakes got higher on July 10, 2011, when U.S. White House Chief of Staff Bill Daley announced that the U.S. will suspend approximately $800 million in aid to Pakistan’s military, a significant development highlighting the rapidly eroding situation in Pakistan.

In response, on July 12, the Chinese foreign ministry spokesman Hong Lei, while talking to reporters in Beijing, pledged China’s support to Pakistan in the wake of the U.S. military aid cut, stating: “Pakistan is an important country in South Asia. The stability and development of Pakistan is closely connected with the peace and stability of South Asia… China has always provided assistance to Pakistan, helping it improve people’s livelihood and realize the sustainable development of its economy and society. China will continue to do so in the future.”[Source – www.tribune.com.pk (Pakistan), July 12, 2011].

Pakistani Defense Minister Chaudhry Ahmed Mukhtar threatened to pull back Pakistani troops from nearly 1,100 security check-posts along the Pakistan-Afghan border, noting that about $300 million of the U.S. military aid is used to go to troops engaged in a counter-terrorism offensive in the border region.

In a past posting we demonstrated the connection between Iran and China as Gog with regions of Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan an other islamic countries as being the biblical Land of Magog.  See our article – The Distant Beat of an Ominious War Drum – Part 1.  Also see the Evidence of Chazal(Our Sages of Blessed Memory) concerning the Land of Magog

Pakistan’s Plan to re-install the Taliban after US Withdrawl

Pakistan’s  Daily Times editorial of July 12th 2011 states:

“In response to Pakistan’s attempts to reverse the carte blanche given by it to the Americans during the Musharraf regime, the U.S. has withheld over a third of the military aid – $800 million – to Pakistan this year. In principle, it is perfectly within the realm of propriety for Pakistan to roll back undue U.S. influence in the country, but how to do it is a question of debate. Things had been souring between the U.S. and Pakistan over some time, which became manifest in the Raymond Davis case.

“Moreover, Pakistan’s military and the ISI have been looking to fulfill their plan for the Afghan endgame to insert the Taliban in power after the U.S. withdrawal. Although the U.S. is engaging with the Taliban for a negotiated political settlement, it has completely bypassed Pakistan. This also became a point of friction. All these things have been accumulating and the crowning feather of the Pak-U.S. rift was the Abbottabad incident [the killing of Osama bin Laden on May 2]. When Pakistan faced embarrassment both domestically and internationally following the Abbottabad raid, in a fit of nationalism, the military accelerated the process of cutting back ties with the U.S. – it sent back American military trainers; the number of visas issued to the U.S. personnel was reduced; and intelligence sharing stopped altogether.

Inside of Pakistan (as well as world wide, Hizb ut Tahrir is working towards the world wide establishment of the Khalifah (Caliphate).  Hizb ut-Tahrir claims it has emerged as the single largest Islamic political party in the world.  In a letter post on their website, Hizb ut Tahrir encourages Pakistani’s to overthrow the Pakistani government who support America, a relationship which now is unraveling quickly.  The letter also states that America’s defeat in the ‘Graveyard of Empires’ (meaning Afghanistan) would spell the end of her capitalist empire.

Throughout the letter, the Hizb ut-Tahrir appeal to the Military officers concerning the condition of Pakistan under the boot of American military operations, employing them to take action.  We know according to various intelligence sources that the Pakistani military and the ISI have been infiltrated by Islamists and many within those organizations are sympathic to the Jihadist cause.

Establish the Khilafah, even though Pakistan’s traitor rulers hate it O officers of Pakistan’s armed forces!

You are leading the largest and most capable Muslim armed forces in the world.

The Muslim armed forces alone have the material strength to establish the Khilafah.

See Hizb ut Tahrir’s video proclamation against the American occupation of Pakistan and the Pakistani rulers that support them.

On the weekend before 28 Rajab 1432 AH, Day of the Fall of the Khilafah,Hizb ut Tahrir wilayah  Pakistan organized gatherings throughout Pakistan. They demanded  that the sincere officers in Pakistan’s armed forces grant Hizb ut Tahrir the Nussrah (Material Support) for the establishment of the Khilafah. The Rajab Nussrah (Material Aid) declaration is as follows:

WE REJECT THE ANTI-ARMED FORCES ACTIVITIES OF THE TRAITORS

WE REJECT THE ANTI-ECONOMY ACTIVITIES OF THE TRAITORS

WE REJECT THE ANTI STATE ACTIVITIES OF THE TRAITORS

See the Rajab 28 Declaration from Hizb ut-Tahrir website

The Pashtun (Pathan) Taliban is Pakistani

Though unknown to most people, the Taliban is primarily made up of the Pashtun (aka the Pathans) Tribe, known for their hard-fighting almost legendary warriors. The Pashtun, who date back at least to the third century BC, have been immortalized in song, story and poem  and grudgingly acknowledged as forces to be reckoned with by none other than Winston Churchill.  The British suffered a shocking defeat to Pashtuns in the 18th century. There have been a number of reports about their “reckless bravery” in the face of Soviet and NATO forces. The Soviet Union left after a futile 10-year battle to control Afghanistan. Many historians have called the Pashtun the world’s only unconquered tribe.  The Pashtuns halted the Horde of Genghis Khan at  Pakistan’s Khyber Pass which they have guarded for 2000 years.

In the late eighties Pakistan assisted Pashtun tribes in attempting to overthrow the Soviet influenced Afghanistan Government.  A group of religious Pashtun scholars and Pashtun mujahideen fighters were organized and formed the Taliban.  After the war ended various factions fought each other for power and none were able to gain control over the entire country.

Global Security.Org notes that,”… the insurgency in Afghanistan has been raised by residents of Pakistan, some of whom are refugees from Afghanistan, others of whom are Pakistanis. It does not arise from opposition among large elements of the Afghan population toward their government. This is a Pashtun insurgency. The insurgency is organized, funded, trained and directed from Pakistan, where most Pashtuns live, and where most Pashtuns have always lived.

The Land of MagogLost 10 Tribes and the Land of Magog

Pashtuns are always described in larger-than-life terms. They are fierce warriors  yet very hospitable. Their tribal code, called Puchtunwali, has been equally romanticized. Its tenets to uphold rule and honor involve protecting to the death anyone who seeks refuge with you.  After the September 11, 2001 attacks the U.S. demanded that the Taliban handover Bin Laden.  The Taliban we would not betray a “friend” to the Afghanistan people because it would betray the sacrifices during the Afghan-Soviet War.  The Taliban didn’t give Osama Bin Laden up because they are Pashtuns and because of their codes of honor and sanctuary prevented such a betrayal.

Simcha Jacobovici,  a Canadian film director, producer, free-lance journalist, and writer who hosts the TV program The Naked Archeologist, produced a important documentary called the Quest for the Lost Tribes of Israel (10 parts).  In it he travel through out the Middle and Far East and discovered remnants of the Lost 10 Tribes of Israel who were exiled from the Land of Israel over 2800 years ago.  One of the people groups he investigated was the Pashtuns who demonstrated very obvious Israelite names and customs.  The Pathans claim descent from Afghana, grandson of King Saul of Israel.  Though they appear as Muslims, when studying the Koran they rock their bodies like Jews, something most Muslims do not do.  When there arise a conflict between Islamic Law and Puchtunwali, then Puchtunwali has more authority in the eyes of the Pathans.  They also practice the ancient biblical law of the cities of refuge, where those accused of manslaughter may flee from the avenger, the eight day circumcision of their sons and much more.

They also claim to be Bani Israel (Israelites) and call them selves Musakhel – of the People of Moshe.   The Pathans have 11 tribal groups and their names reflect their connection to the people of Israel – The Tribe of Rabani (Rueben), the tribe of Levani (Levi), the tribe of Shimwari (Shimon), the small tribe of Gadun (Gad).  The most numerous of all the tribes is  Efriti (Ephraim).  Simcha points out that there is also a sub tribe call Waziri, who wears their hair long much like the biblical Naziri (Nazarites).

The Black Flags of Khorusan

Khurosan Army of the Black FlagsAfghanistan has special significance to the world of militant Islam. It was once called Khurasan (meaning the Land of the Rising Sun), along with parts of Iran and Pakistan.  As was noted in a previous blog, Khurusan is also the biblical Land of Magog, from where a large army marches to the Land of Israel for a final showdown in the Last Days.  This Army of Black Flags is the army of the Al- Mahdi, the Islamic deliverer.

Muhammad said: “If you see the black flags coming from Khurasan, join that army, even if you have to crawl over ice, for that is the army of the Imam al-Mahdi and no one can stop that army until it reaches Jerusalem.”

Khorusan is the area that is primarily controlled by the Pathans (Pashtuns) or their allies.   According to Ahadith the main signs identifying (the majority of) the Muslim forces of Imam Mahdi are the following.

1. They will come from the East

2. They will be from the race of Bani Ishaq/Al-e-Haroon/Bani-Israel (Ancient Israelites)

3. They will come from the historical geographical region of Ancient Khorasan.

4. They will be from a mighty warrior nation.

5. They will be from a poor Nation.

6.  They are from a place with cold climate.

7.  Their Leader Imam Mahdi will be wearing QUTWANI CLOAKS.  Qutwani Cloak has fringes like the Tallit that Jews wear for prayer.   Both Qutwani cloak and TALLIT have fringes (tzitzit) on borders and its mostly made of Wool.  It generally falls across the head, neck, and shoulders. However the Qutwani cloak is larger and more conspicuous prayer shawl than the Tallit.

8.  They will be Tortured, expelled from homes.

9.   They will be from the region of Taliqon (i.e Afghanistan)

10.  The majority of them are non-Arabs

Now which ethnic group among the Muslims has all these signs?  The Pathans living in Afghanistan and Pakistan have all these signs because they live in the East, they are the only people among Muslims considered to be among the lost tribes of Israel. The Pathans are not Arabs, they live in the region of ancient Khorasan, they belong to very poor nation, they are considered to be a fierce Warrior Race , and they are from a place with cold climate.  US and Nato forces have waged  a long protracted war on the Pathans and have tortured those who were captured.  They themselves acknowledge their Israelite history and do not consider themselves to be strictly Muslim.  The biblical prophecies call for a return of all the lost and scattered people groups of Israel.  How the Pathans play into this prophetic scenario remains to be seen, though at least one biblical historian, Dr John Mock, believes that they are God’ Battle Axe, possibly an apt description of the returned 10 tribes in  the Book of Zechariah.

With the spiraling political situation in Pakistan and the recent developments with China, it is quite possible that the Khalifah could be re-established in Pakistan (and then worldwide) with the Army of the Black Flags emerging in the near future to take their place in the the real life biblical drama that will bring them home to the Land of Israel.  This scenario appears to be consistent with all three Abrahamic Faiths and supported by their religious texts.

It remains to be seen if whether that family reunion between the 10 tribes and the House of Judah will be one of rejoicing or one of war, but rest assured the unfolding of these future events will be met with awe and trepidation alike.

Invasion Israel 2012?

The following article written by Dr. Yacov Tabak,  appeared on Arutz Sheva and is reprinted here.

An Invasion of Israel in 2012?

Negative-seeming events may be the fulfillment of a prophecy that is a harbinger of redemption. Read on for a possible scenario in keeping with current and recent events and Biblical prophecy. Executive Summary: A careful comparison of current events vis-à-vis the Palestinians and the so-called Peace Process with a variety of Jewish sources concerning events that are destined to take place at the Final Redemption, leads to surprising and positive possibilities. The following article describes a possible scenario and the Jewish sources on which it is based. Maimonides (Mishneh Torah, Hilchot Melachim 12) teaches that the Jewish Oral Tradition does not clarify the details of future events described by the Prophets of Israel in the Bible. In his words,וכל אלו הדברים וכיוצא בהן לא ידע אדם איך יהיו עד שיהיו – “and in all these things and related matters man will not know how they will come about until they come about.” In other words, no one knows exactly what the Prophets are describing until it takes place.

the Final RedemptionThe Jewish Oral Tradition (תורה שבעל פה Torah she-Beal Peh) gives us abundant guidance on matters of Halakha – for instance, the פרי עץ הדר – “the fruit of the beauteous tree to be taken on Sukkot” – is defined by the Oral Tradition as the אתרוג etrog – the citron. Or, the Biblical injunction to וקשרתם לאות על ידך והיו לטטפת בין עיניך”bind them as a sign on your arms and frontlets between your eyes” we understand from the Torah she-Beal Peh refers to phylacteries – Tefillin – which are cubic black leather boxes containing parchments inscribed with very specific Biblical passages. Without the Oral Tradition, we would have no way of knowing this. A comparable guide to understanding prophetic statements, however, is not revealed by the Oral Tradition. For instance, Isaiah 60:08, in reference to the returning of the Exiles to Israel in the Final Redemption, states: מי אלה כעב תעופינה וכיונים אל ארבתיהם – “who are these who will fly like a cloud, and like doves to their dovecotes?”

Before the era of piloted manned flight began in the early twentieth century, classical commentators were simply unable to understand this passage. Today, when virtually all modern-era immigrants have reached Israel by flying at the altitude of clouds, and, like doves, always landing in the same place – the Ben Gurion Airport , we understand clearly the prediction of Isaiah concerning this phenomenon of airborne ingathering of Exiles. Another example is Isaiah 26:20 לך עמי בא בחדריך וסגור דלתך בעדך חבי כמעט רגע עד יעבר זעם – “Go My people come into your rooms and close your doors behind you, hide for just a moment until the fury passes”. The Biblical commentator Radak comments that this will occur during the War of Gog Umagog and the reference to “rooms” is allegorical and refers to “taking shelter” so to speak, by doing good deeds and doing penance. Rashi states that the Jews will go to their synagogues and study halls at that time. As we now know, this passage is a very accurate description of the seclusion in the “sealed rooms” used as a protection in Israel against chemical warfare agents in the first Gulf War in 1991 and the “fury passing” occurred when the “All Clear” sounded (the code words were “Sharav Kaved”) allowing people to exit the sealed rooms after the Scud missile landed and was determined to be chemically non-threatening. As Maimonides had said, when the prophecy comes to pass, we are able to understand the passage, and so it was.

The People of Israel have been experiencing events described as those of אחרית הימים “Acharit Hayamim” – the “Last of the Years” [not, as often mistranslated, “The End of Days”] referred to by the Torah and the prophets, when there is to be a massive ingathering of Jews to the Land of Israel, an extensive rebuilding of the country and its communities, and a Golden Age when כי מציון תצא תורה ודבר השם מירושלים – “for from Zion shall issue forth Torah (Teaching = knowledge, including technological and scientific advances) and the Word of G-d from Jerusalem” Isaiah 2:3 and Michah 4:2. It is tempting to explore prophetic and Midrashic sources to look for the context of unfolding events. This study leads to encouragement as to their salutary outcome, despite the difficulties and challenges we face at present. Rav Saadyah Gaon related to this over one thousand years ago in his ten-part seminal philosophical work הנבחר באמונות ודעות”Hanivchar Be’emunot Ve’deot” “Selected Matters of Faith and Doctrines of Dogma”. In number 8 – בישועה “BaYeshuah” – “Concerning the Final Salvation” he states (according to the translation from the Arabic by Rav Yosef Kapach, page 247) ישתבח מי שהטיב לנו בהקדימו להודיע לנו את הצרות האלה שלא יבואו עלינו פתאום ויגרמו לנו ייאוש – “praised be He who benefited us in that He gave us advance notice concerning these troubles so that they would not happen to us suddenly and cause us despair”. To paraphrase this idea, there is a reason the prophets provide so much detail in their accounts of future events in the Messianic Age. After all, to convey basic Jewish Faith in the Redemption concept it would be enough for the Prophets to write “trust in the Ultimate Redemption – it will surely come.” The reason for the detailed scenarios described in Biblical prophecy is so that when these events begin to take place, we will be able to recognize the patterns and context of ominous developments, and know that the final outcome is positive. The message of Rav Saadyah is that the detail has been provided in order that the Jewish people will not despair.

Jewish Sacred TextsThis foreknowledge of the outcome provided by the prophets will preclude mass despair on the part of the Jewish public when the scenario of upcoming events of the Messianic era seems threatening and foreboding. An example of this principle at work was provided over five years ago on the occasion of the destruction of Gush Katif. At that time, the prospect of Israel destroying many rebuilt Jewish communities was considered by some to be an indication of a reversal of the אתחלתא דגאולה “atchalta de’Geula” “first stages of the Redemption” which the State of Israel embodied up to that point. However, the Targum Yonatan ben Uziel on Deuteronomy 34:3 states: וית גלוות תלמידי אלישע דגלו מן קרוות דקליא על ידי אחוהון בית ישראל מאתן אלפין גוברין . . . וסדרי קרבא דגוג ובעידן צערא רבא ההיא מיכאל יקום בדרעא לפרוקא – in translation “And the exile of the students of Elisha [the Prophet] who are exiled from the Town of Dekalim by their brethren of the House of Israel – 200,000 men – . . . and the battle orders of Gog [and Magog] and in that era of great pain, Michael [the Archangel Michael – the guardian angel of the Jewish people] will arise with the [outstretched] Arm [of the Almighty] in order to redeem.” This source tells us that the evacuation of Gush Katif and its principle town Neveh Dekalim, exiling the Jewish residents, could be seen as an integral part of the upcoming scenario of Ultimate Redemption. Were it not for this source, we might have despaired of the future. Taking it into consideration, although we do not yet understand the logic and we share the pain of the exiled pioneers, and although those who perpetrated the act chose of their own free will to cause immeasurable suffering, we can be heartened that it is part of the overall redemption scenario so that we do not “despair”.[See /Articles/Article.aspx/5497 for a detailed discussion of this source.]

In Israel , we find ourselves in foreboding circumstances today, in Spring 2011.

The State of Israel seems to have lost a major measure of its support in the non-Jewish world and is being stampeded into abandoning large parts of the Land of Israel to the tender mercies of sworn enemies who have no peaceful intentions at all – the Palestinians. These are Arabs who constitute a “national entity” invented recently of whole cloth and which never existed in world history. Their wish is to destroy the State of Israel and kill as many Jews as possible in the process. Prime Minister Netanyahu is being pushed into formulating a plan of further concessions, beyond those already granted, lest the “World” (i.e. the Quartet – the USA , Russia , the UN, and the EU) force on Israel a “peace agreement” which would involve the abandonment of the homes of over 600,000 Israelis – including large parts of Jerusalem . The Palestinian enemy fully expects this scenario to materialize and so, steadfastly refuses to negotiate. Since the “World”, lead by US President Barack Hussein Obama whose father was a practicing Moslem, does not punish them in any way for not negotiating, they feel vindicated in this assessment.

Let us consult Jewish sources to see if there are hints as to upcoming events. First we will review a possible scenario constructed from the Palestinian declared intentions and from prophetic sources that correlate with them. Then we will quote these sources in detail so as to back up the scenario. The result is much more encouraging than currently considered. A Possible Scenario: After extensive preparation of the apparatus of statehood and widespread recognition by a growing list of countries of an “independent state of Palestine with borders defined by the 1967 cease-fire lines”, the Palestinians turn in September 2011 [see Note 1 below] to the UN Security Council to be recognized as an independent State within the pre-1967 armistice lines– meaning that the Ramat Eshkol neighborhood of Jerusalem, as well as many others, will be part of Security-Council-recognized Palestine. The USA does not veto this resolution (the recent US veto of the anti-settlement Security Council resolution was a feint, and not a precedent) and it passes [see Note 2]; alternatively, if there is a veto, the Palestinians turn to the UN General Assembly, using the 1950’s “Uniting for Peace” tactic which enabled the USA to engage in the Korean War although a Russian-Chinese veto had paralyzed the Security Council on this issue and receive their approval.

The Palestinians then turn to the State of Israel and request immediate evacuation of its nearly 650,000 citizens from “their state”. Israel offers to discuss the matter, the Palestinians refuse any discussion [see Note 3] and refer the issue back to the Security Council, requesting that they act to remove these interlopers post haste from “their state”. After a short time, the Security Council and/or Quartet decide that the festering wound of the Israel-Palestine conflict has persisted long enough and decide to settle the matter once and for all by sending an expeditionary force to Israel to carry out the evacuation forcibly [see Note 4]. The deadline for Israel acting is by January 15, 2012 [see Note 5]. On or about that date, if Israel does not begin to seriously evacuate its citizens (and it won’t), an expeditionary force consisting of contingents from both Christian and Moslem countries [see Note 6] lands on the shores of Israel . The force consists of at least 185,000 combat soldiers [see Note 7], and is well-armed enough to counter the IDF (Israel Defense Forces) in whatever conflict configuration that might develop. It has been demonstrated on the Internet that there is an elaborate US Armed Forces base in Israel , located near Shoham, and straddling the Green Line, and the force waiting for Gogmay be quartered there. This base was given to Pres. George W. Bush by Prime Minister Sharon on the occasion of the second Iraq War about five years ago. For a detailed description of this extra-territorial US presence in Israel , see http://www.rense.com/general66/excl.htm , including many pictures. Eight months after the initial invasion [see note 8], the force approaches Jerusalem on the Eve of Sukkot 5773 (October 2012) [see Note 8]. They cause substantial havoc, but one week later, on the night between Oct. 06 and Oct. 07, 2012 – in the Hebrew calendar ליל הושענא רבה Leil Hoshanna Rabbah – the eve of the seventh day of Sukkot – , the L-rd, G-d of Israel says “Enough!” and puts an end to this force by some as yet unidentified natural phenomenon, devastating all the home countries who contributed personnel to the invasion [see Note 8]. Furthermore, on this occasion, all the capitals of the historic enemies of the Jews (for example Berlin, Teheran, Cairo, Rome, London, Madrid, Mecca, Moscow) will be reduced to rubble in a natural disaster that engulfs the entire planet [see Notes 9 and 11]. On the morning of Hoshanna Rabbah, the world looks entirely different. The final end to political or military pressure exerted on Jews and their State of Israel arrives. At the close of this scenario, the Israel-Palestinian conflict ends forever. The Jews present in the Holy Land emerge unscathed and those surviving the devastation overseas soon make a final Aliyah [see Note 10].

The Sources:

Those readers familiar with Jewish sources describing the War of Gog and Magog will recognize elements thereof in the above scenario. Let us now elaborate in detail the sources for the above account, point-by-point.

1. August-September, 2011 Security Council approval of a Palestinian State in the 1967 lines: This is the proclaimed intention of the Palestinian leadership, as declared repeatedly by their Prime Minister Salam Fayyad over the last 1 1/2 years. It is also the date by which the “Quartet” has determined that a final settlement of the Israel-Palestinian conflict be completed.

2. American non-use of the Veto at the Security Council : For the first time in history, America has a President – Barack Obama – with a sympathetic orientation to Moslem countries. He visited Cairo early in his presidency but has not yet visited Israel , and actions speak louder than words. The Palestinians’ moves would logically be made such that the entire planned process of forcing Israel militarily to do their bidding is completed before November 2012 when Obama stands for re-election.

3. The Palestinians demand evacuation of their country by the Jewish non-citizens and refuse to negotiate: This is simply a logical conclusion based on their behavior and statements to date – force Israel to vacate all territory beyond the post-1967 lines without resorting to negotiation and without conceding anything at all. They have announced clearly that their state must be judenrein.

4. The “Quartet” decides to force Israeli evacuation militarily: The entire tenor of the anti-Israeli international political atmosphere for the last two years leads directly to this outcome. It is this prospect that has Prime Minister Bibi Netanyahu and Defense Minister Ehud Barak running scared and feeling pressured to make proposals to “advance the peace process,” even though the current logjam in negotiations is entirely the fault of the Palestinians. Note the Arab League’s announced plan to ask to make Gaza a no-fly zone and Obama advisor Samantha Power’s suggestion to send UN forces to protect the Palestinians from the IDF.

5. The Jan.15, 2012 date: The first Gulf War in 1991 was fixed to begin on this date. Events in the solar calendar have particular significance for the non-Jewish world and those in the lunar calendar are significant for the Jewish world. (see BT Tractate Succa 29a – a solar eclipse is a bad omen for the non-Jews and a lunar eclipse is a bad omen for the Jews). In 2012, the interval between Jan. 15 and Oct. 07, Hoshanna Rabbah – the seventh day of Sukkot, is exactly 266 days – 38 weeks, i.e. the nine months of a human pregnancy. According to BT Yoma 10a, “Ben-David (the Messiah) will only arrive after the evil kingdom of Rome dominates the entire world for a period of nine months as it says in Micah 5:2 “therefore give them the time it takes for her to give birth.” The events at the closing stages of the Redemption process will last the nine months of human gestation. Since it is understood that the finale of G-d’s victory over the nations at the close of the Gog and Magog War takes place on the seventh day of Sukkot – Hoshanna Rabbah, it is logical to seek the year when this interval is 266 days. 2012 is such a year. In Zechariah 14, it states that in response to the nations’ invasion of Eretz Yisrael, ויצא השם ונלחם בגוים ההם כיום הלחמו ביום קרב – “And Hashem will go forth and do battle with those nations as on the day of His fighting on the day of Battle .” The Targum Yonatan renders this: כיום אגחותיה קרב על ימא דסוף – “As on the day that he fought the battle at the Red Sea”, referring to the night of the seventh day of Passover, when the Egyptian pursuers were drowned in the Red Sea . Since G-d’s victory over the Egyptians in the Exodus culminated in the crossing of the Red Sea and the final destruction of the Egyptian enemy on the seventh day of Passover, so in the Final Redemption on the Seventh Day of Sukkot all the nations who were/are enemies of the Jews will be destroyed. As it states in Michah 7:15 כימי צאתך מארץ מצרים אראנו נפלאות “kimei tzeitcha mei-eretz Mitzrayim ar’enu niflaot” – “I will show you miraculous events (at the Final Redemption) as in the days of the Exodus.” The connection with the Sukkot holiday is clearly indicated in Zechariah 14 and is the reason the chapters related to the War of Gog and Magog were chosen to be read as Haphtorot on Sukkot. This connection is Torah-mandated. The 70 bulls sacrificed on Sukkot in the Holy Temple on behalf of the welfare of the 70-nations of the world are sacrificed not 10 per day for 7 days, but in a curious countdown from 13 on the first day to 7 on the last day. The total is 70, but the declining numbers are an ominous message to the nations that in the ultimate events to take place on Sukkot, they will not fare well (unless there is massive Teshuva – repentance – on their part; see Rashi on Numbers 29:18).

Gog Magog6. Christian and Moslem Contingents in the Invading Expeditionary Force: See Daniel 11:40 and following: 40 – ובעת קץ יתנגח עמו מלך הנגב וישתער עליו מלך הצפון ברכב ובפרשים ובאניות רבות ובא בארצות ושטף ועבר – “And at the time of the End [a synonym in Biblical terminology for Acharit Hayamim] there will be a collision with him by the King of the South and the King of the North will storm [his defences] with chariots and horsemen and many ocean-going vessels and he will sweep through and pass on”. – ויטע אהלי אפדנו בין ימים להר צבי קודש ובא עד קצו ואין עוזר לו – “And he will pitch his Royal tents between the seas and the mount of the Sacred Beauty [a synonym for the land of Israel] and he will come to his End, and there is no one to help him”. 12:1 – ובעת ההיא יעמוד מיכאל השר הגדול העמד על בני עמך והיתה עת צרה אשר לא נהיתה מהיות גוי עד העת ההיא ובעת ההיא ימלט עמך כל הנמצא כתוב בספר – “And at that time, the Great Archangel Michael [the traditional Guardian Angel of the Jews], who guards over Your people, will arise and there will be a time of troubles such as never before since becoming a nation until then, and at that time, Your people will escape – all those found to be written in the book.” The above passages describe a seminal war between the King of the South and the King of the North, who then unite to invade Israel , where they will meet their end. Over one hundred years ago, the classic commentary Malbim identified the King of the South as “artzot Yishmael” the Ishmaelite countries, a clear reference to Moslem forces; the Metzudot David, another commentary, identifies the King of the North as “Romi”, Rome , a reference to the Christian countries. From these sources, it derives that the invasion of Israel at the end of the scenario involves a coalition of both Moslem and Christian forces. This invasion and its consequences – the War of Gog-u-Magog – are described in detail in Ezekiel 38 and 39. There, Persia is mentioned as part of the invading coalition, so that now Iran may be part of the expeditionary force as well. The intent of the invading force is (38:12) לשלול שלל ולבוז בז להשיב ידך על חרבות נושבות ואל עם מאסף מגוים עשה מקנה וקנין יושבי על טבור הארץ -“To take as booty the booty [the booty already taken–in the Six Day War?], and to despoil the spoils, to return your [violent] hand on resettled ruins and against a people ingathered from the Nations, dealing in commercial trade, and dwelling in the heartland [literally: the navel of the Land]”. This description closely suits the intent to uproot communities rebuilt in Israel [referred to as “the settlements” in the current diplomatic jargon], the intent of the Expeditionary Force. Finally, in 39:06 – ושלחתי אש במגוג וביושבי האיים לבטח וידעו כי אני השם – “I will send fire in Magog [the home countries of Gog and his coalition] and in the dwellers of the Islands [a biblical term for overseas territories – other continents] in security and then they will know that I am the L-rd.” This is a clear reference to world-wide destruction and catastrophe. In Zechariah 13:8, a reference to “two-thirds will be cut off and perish and one-third will be left over [from the destruction]” is interpreted as referring to the vast toll of this world-wide catastrophe (see BT Sanhedrin 111a – debate between R’ Yohanan and Resh Lakish).

7. 185,000 Soldiers: The B.T. Sanhedrin 95b describes that the future armies of Gog Umagog will encompass 185,000 troops as did the besieging army of Sancheriv (Sennacherib) who laid unsuccessful siege to Jerusalem during the reign of King Hezekiah. The force is itemized there as 45,000 senior officers (with their camp-following consorts), 80,000 soldiers equipped with scale-equipped body-armor, and 60,000 swordsmen, in addition to various horsemen. This analogy derives from the similarities between this account and the scenario foretold by the prophets for the Gog Umagog conflict. An expeditionary force coming against Israel has to be capable theoretically of defeating the IDF in battle, although a battle may not occur.

8. The attack on Jerusalem on Sukkot: See Zecharia 14 – the entire chapter – for the details of this invasion. The association with Sukkot is made at the end of the chapter where in the aftermath of G-d’s victory over the nations, their survivors are commanded to visit Jerusalem annually on Sukkot in remembrance of this event. This chapter is read in synagogues as the Haphtorah on the first day of Sukkot. And Chapters 38-39 of Ezekiel, mentioned above, are read on the Intermediate Sabbath of Sukkot as the Haphtorah. The two readings are associated with Sukkot because the events described there are destined to take place on Sukkot (see Rav Hai Gaon in Tur Shulhan Arukh – Orach Chaim – 490).

9.The Planet-wide Disaster on Hoshanna Rabbah: See the detailed scenario in Ezekiel 38-39 and Zecharia 14. Earthquakes, tidal waves, avnei elgavish (which I have identified as a major fall of earth-crossing asteroids on the planet that night of Hoshanna Rabbah); each of these has enough energy and destructive power to leave a crater or devastation where a city stood previously).

10. The Jews in Israel survive: In Joel 4:16: והשם מציון ישאג ומירושלים יתן קולו ורעשו שמים וארץ והשם מחסה לעמו ומעוז לבני ישראל – In the context of this war, “and G-d will roar forth from Zion, and He will raise His voice from Jerusalem, and the heavens and the earth will tremble [the Biblical verb for an earthquake] and G-d will be a shelter for His people and a fortress for the children of Israel”. Furthermore, by analogy with the Exodus as defined above, the concept of הפלאה”hafla’ah” – contradistinction – was a dominant theme in the Exodus. Plague after plague smote the Egyptians but the Israelites were unaffected. See the account of the plague of “dever” – cattle blight – in Exodus 9:7 where Pharaoh cannot believe that the Israelites lost no cattle to this plague and sent a personal emissary to the land of Goshen to confirm this amazing contradistinction. So may we hope that it will be in the Final Redemption, and although there will be massive perishing all over the planet, the Jews in Israel will survive unharmed, decisively demonstrating G-d’s intervention on their behalf. This will serve to convince the surviving non-Jews of the globe Who orchestrated this world-wide catastrophe – and why. Finally, in Deuteronomy 32:25, the song of Ha’azinu, it states מחוץ תשכל חרב ומחדרים אימה – “michutz teshakel cherev umechadarim eimah” literally – “outside there will be loss of life by sword, and indoors there will be great fear.” The Targum Yonatan on this passage: עמא דגלו מברא לארעא דישראל תתכיל יתהון מחת חרבא ודמשתיירין בארעא דישראל בגו קיטוני מדמיכיהון איגרי בהון הגרת מותא – “The people exiled outside the boundaries of the Land of Israel will suffer the blow of the sword and those remaining in the Land of Israel in their bedrooms where they sleep will fear the fear of death.” This strongly suggests that the safest place for the Jews to be during that Sukkot will be in Israel – they will fear, but will remain alive.

11. Destruction of the Past and Current Enemies of the Jews at that time: This theme recurs in the Bible and the words of the prophets repeatedly. One quote will illustrate the point: Deuteronomy 32:43 – again from the Song of Ha’azinu: הרנינו גוים עמו כי דם עבדיו יקום ונקם ישיב לצריו וכפר אדמתו עמו – “Nations, praise His people, for He has avenged the blood of His servants, and He will visit vengeance on His adversaries and will atone for His land and for His people.”

In Conclusion:

As quoted above, Maimonides warns that no one knows for sure to what events specific prophecies refer until they come to pass. However, we live in times so replete with prophecies in the midst of fulfillment that we may be forgiven for constructing possible scenarios. The above is one such scenario, congruent with Jewish sources. There may be others with different outcomes. If there is an armed invasion of Israel by a joint Christian-Moslem force intending to eject Jews from the historic Land of Israel , and this takes place in early 2012, there will be those who will ominously predict the imminent demise of the independent State of Israel, as there are even those who do so today. However, as described above, the outcome may be dramatically more favorable for the Jews. There will be no room for despair, but rather for intense optimism, and that precisely is the message of Rav Saadyah Gaon above in explaining why we have been provided by Divine guidance with all this information. [Note: The ideas and substance of the above, including the key dates and details, were broadcast on Arutz 7 Internet Radio – the Tamar Yonah Show, on the occasion of Yom Yerushalayim 5770 (on May 11, 2010) in an interview conducted by Tamar with the author. It is interesting to note that the events of the last 10 months, including the Palestinian absolute refusal to negotiate and their marshalling of many countries to support the 1967 cease-fire lines as their borders, have served only to reinforce the impression that this scenario is indeed underway.]
