What The Torah/Prophets/Sages Say About Worshipers Of Other Religions

I recieve numerous emails from various sources regarding the topics we speak about on this blog. Most of them I would not quote in their entirety simply because they are not pertinent to the primary theme of this blog – Israel in Prophecy.  The following article is an email I recieved from a Sephardic rabbi whom I have tremendous respect for and whom often focus’ his sharp critique of his own faith of Torah Judaism.  While I certainly do not agree with his take on some topics, his wisdom and understanding shine through regardless.

What The Torah/Prophets/Sages Say About Worshipers Of Other Religions

Preliminary Word

Let me begin here by saying that after years of being involved in religious polemics, I now have come to the conclusion that such polemics and religious debates are a complete waste of time.  I believe that faith is a matter of heart, and that while faith will forever be debated, it will never be proven to the unbeliever.

Faith can only be embraced, or rejected.  Faith is always justified in the mind of the believer.  In the mind of the believer, one’s faith makes total sense and is clear for all to see.  Nevertheless, there will always be the vast majority who believe differently, and who, just do not, and will not, see what any other particular believer sees.

I do not believe that faith can be proven, so, I do not believe that one should ever try to prove it.  I believe that this includes my faith as well.  In my opinion, among the religious faiths that cannot be proven include modern-day secularism and atheism.  Belief in no God is as much a statement of faith as belief in God.

Rather than argue, debate and come to blows over which faith is the correct one, I believe that it is the duty of every human being to focus on moral and righteous human behavior, regardless of our different faiths.  Torah teaches that God looks to our behaviors, not at our beliefs.  “Yet, I will look to this, to the man who is humble and contrite in spirit, who fears My Word” (Isaiah 66:2)  Therefore, it is in this light that I address this topic, with the hope to document how Torah views worshipers of other religions.

Everyone wants to fight for his god, and for his religion.  Everyone wants to prove that his religion is the right one and that his god is the true God.  In spite of everyone saying that God is one, no one really believes that the god of others is, in fact, the one true God.

So, are we destined to shoot it out til the end, with the last man standing being the winner, and thus being the only one left, to proclaim his faith as the true faith?   After all, it’s not like this hasn’t happened before in the past.  In the fights over religion, might definitely makes right.  This is the history of Christian and Muslim growth. And yet the fights continue.

What will it take for people to stop fighting over religion?  I confess, I have no idea.  Catholics fight Protestants, Sunni fight Shia, and in Judaism, the so-called Haredim (ultra-orthodox) fight everyone.  Granted the Haredi are not as violent as Christians and Muslims have been historically, but with regards to religious fundamentalism and fanaticism, they are psychologically no different from the most radical sects found in the other religions.

Judaism’s Haredim are today so out-of-control that they have hijacked authentic Torah Judaism, and their influence and revision of classical Torah is growing like a deadly virus.  There is no telling what insanity the Haredim of the not-to-distant future will do, if and when given the chance.  Judging from present circumstances, the future indeed looks bleak.

I know that many of my readers are offended by what I say about the Haredim, but deep down, almost everyone of my readers know that I am right! But, I am not here to write about the Haredim. I do not care about them. They are God’s problem, not mine. My concern, as a rabbi, is to make sure that the classical Torah of our Sages throughout the centuries is not lost under a tidal wave of bizarre extremism under the guise and name of Torah. I mention here the Haredim to juxtapose them in opposition to righteous Gentiles.

Religious extremists of all kinds embrace a very monolithic black-and-white skewered view of reality.  For the extremist, there is only one right way, and that those who do not walk it, are cut off from God, both in this world and in the world to come.  While the scriptures of other faiths may proclaim these views verbatim, we do not find such sentiments within Torah scriptures.

Unlike the religions that have grown out of Torah, the mother faith, the Torah, Prophets and Writings do not express absolutes about the after-life.  Torah contains no threats about eternal damnation for those who do not believe the proper doctrines.  Torah does not speak much, if at all, about anything in the after-life.  The emphasis and concern of Torah is how we live in this world, not how we worry about the world-to-come.

Idolatry is the worship of foreign gods.  It is considered the quintessential denial of faith.  Yet, one man’s believer is the other man’s idolater, blasphemer or infidel.  Yet, Torah did not go on a diatribe against idolatry because of theological or doctrinal reasons.  Idolatry was forbidden because ancient idolatrous practices were cruelly inhuman.  The behaviors of ancient idolaters were barbaric, often including human sacrifice and other equally depraved behaviors.  Torah prohibited these practices for the sake of elevating human behavior, and not for the sake of nebulous doctrinal purities.

In ancient times, there were those idolaters who understood the need for humane behavior in their practices, and each, in their own ways, acknowledged what they understood to be the Creator.  While the purpose of this short essay is not to review ancient idolatrous practices, it is to look into Scripture to see what exactly the prophets have to say on the subject.  In order to understand the teachings of the prophets, I need just refer to one scripture verse.

At the end of the prophetic period, the prophet Malakhi gives to us an interesting and revelatory word from God. In chapter 1, verse 11, the prophet states in God’s Name:

“For, from the rising of the sun until its setting, My Name is great among the nations, and everywhere offerings are burnt and offered up to My Name, yea, a pure oblation, for My Name is great among the nations, says the Lord of Hosts.”

Now, we must ask, in the days of the prophet Malakhi, which is the generation of the original return of the Israelite exiles, in approximately 500 BCE, where and how is the Name of the God of Israel great amongst the Gentile nations?  Which nations is the prophet referring to here?  Granted God’s Name is great in Israel, but Israel is one nation (in the singular), not nations (in the plural).  So, what nations does the prophet refer to?  Apparently the understanding is as follows.

God knows the limitations of human intellect, and understands well how we human beings are often erred in our understandings of spiritual matters.  Knowing human limitations, God does not judge us, any of us, by what we think in our limited human minds, blemished as they are the the metaphorical forbidden fruit of the Tree of Knowledge, Good and Evil.  Instead, God looks into the human heart, and judges us, all of us, by our moral and righteous behaviors.

When it comes to Divine worship, God apparently does not judge the form, but rather the intent of the individual worshiper.  While said worshiper might be worshiping within a religious system defined by Torah as idolatrous, nevertheless, God does not hold that against the individual worshiper.  Instead, God looks to the heart, and if that individual is sincere, and that one’s behavior righteous, then God calls such a one “the righteous of the nations” (hasidei umot haolam).  God accepts and blesses such an individual, even if such an individual be practicing idolatry, as defined by Torah.

This understanding is clearly expressed by the classical Torah commentators to this verse in Malakhi.  The classical commentary Rashi quotes one of the Talmud’s interpretations of this verse and says, “Our Sages stated (Men. 110a): For they [the nations] call Him [the Creator] the God of the gods. Even one who has an idol knows that He [the Creator, the Heavenly Father] is the God Who is over all of them – and everywhere they [the nations] donate in My Name.”

Another classical commentator, the Mahari Karo states, “from one end of the world to the other, all the nations call upon my great Name.” And, “in every place even a Gentile offers a sacrifice to my Name, he brings a pure offering… the nations honor Me, but you [Israel] dishonor.”

The Metzudot David commentary writes, “from the place where the suns rises to where it sets, my Name is great amongst the idolaters (Akum), for they all acknowledge that He (blessed be He)  is the First Cause that gives to all.”

Rabbi David Kimkhi (RaDaK) writes, “if I were to command them [the nations] like I have commanded you, they would be offering to My Name a pure offering, not like what you do, for you bring an unclean offering… this is the opposite of the nations for they honor and respect My Name.”

I could go on and show the commentaries of Ibn Ezra and the Malbim.  They expand on the above sentiments, and reinforce them.  Yet, I feel that the point here should already be clear.  God loves sincerity and praises it, and God hates hypocrisy and condemns it.

When the idolatrous nations do good, God acknowledges it, and when Israel does bad, God exposes it.  Let this serve as a lesson to all the racists, and chauvinists out there who think themselves superior and call themselves, “God’s people,” all the while that their deeds are that of Hell, instead of those of Heaven.  This is as much a lesson for those who embrace “replacement theology” as for those who do not!

God does not condemn sincere worship based on the theology of the worshiper.  This is made very clear by Ibn Ezra, Malbim, the Metzudot David and others.  God cares, now and forever more, about what we do, and not so much about what we think!

Later Torah tradition, teaches us, in no less than in the name of the immortal prophet Elijah that Gentiles can receive Divine inspiration and prophecy equal to any child of Israel, depending upon one’s behavior.  “I call Heaven and Earth to bear witness, be it a man or woman, Jew or Gentile, freeman or slave, all can receive Divine inspiration (Ruah HaKodesh, the holy Spirit), all in accordance with their actions.” (Tana Dvei Eliyahu, Rabbah 9a).

In his commentary to Maimonides’ code, the Mishneh Torah, Torah Foundations, in the discussion about prophets and prophecies, Rabbi Aharon Soloveitchik has written that if there ever was a tried and true Gentile prophet to rise from the nations, it would be obligatory for even Israel to heed his words at the direction of God. (Sefer Perah Mateh Aharon, page 57)

In Isaiah it is written (66:21), “And from them too will I take for priests and for Levites,” says the Lord.” God will make priests and Levites from the nations to serve Him in the rebuilt Temple (see also Rashi).  In Tana Dvei Eliyahu, Zuta, 20:6 it states that the righteous of the nations are referred to as God’s priests. “Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let Your devout ones sing praises” (Psalm 132:9). “Your priests,” these are the righteous of the nations of the world.  They are the priests to the Holy One, blessed be He in this world, such as Antoninus and those like him.

What we learn from this is that Torah does not view the theologies of others as being a hindrance to their being righteous human beings who are blessed and acceptable to God.  Unlike other religions, Judaism does not condemn non-believers and delegate them to an after-life of suffering and torture due to their practice of their own sacred beliefs.  While Judaism believes idolatrous beliefs to be mistaken, such a mistake does not in Torah eyes, evoke Divine wrath and eternal punishment.

So, why argue over religion?  Missionaries of all kinds will never cease to exist.  Peoples with all agendas will go on and on.  Everyone is so convinced that “my way” is right, and therefore “your way” has to be wrong. And equally everyone wonders, why can’t others see the things that are so clear and “self evident” to “me.”

You see!  This is the absence of faith!  When one demands that everyone be just like them, this is the opposite of faith and the very definition of the path of impurity, that, as we have seen above, is hated by God.

Now, maybe you have a little more insight into why I am so vocal in condemning the hypocrisy that exists in my own greater community.  I pray that each of us would have the courage to not only recognize, but also to speak out against the modern day extremists and desecration!

If we want to save religion, then we have to act sincerely and truly religious.  This requires of us to expose and condemn the religious extremists and hypocrites, especially when they are in our own camps, calling themselves “ultra-orthodox.”  There is no such thing!  We have Torah and we have Halakha (Law).  Those who walk in their path are called Torah faithful.  Those who do not, (in spite of extremist appearances), simply are not walking the Torah Way, and thus are far from Torah’s God and His Grace.

God expects from us courage.  We have to have the courage to acknowledge, beyond ethnicity and nationality, who are the true children of God and who are not.  This will never be defined by national identity or by doctrinal proclamations.  Rather this will be decided as God Himself has said (and repeated by the classical Sages), those who are sincere and righteous are God’s people, those who are neither are not! It is that simple.

It is better to live among righteous Gentiles than to live among unrighteous Jews.  Painful as this may be to some, it is true.  God looks to behavior.  Look around where you live, without your “rose-colored” glasses, and ask, are these people, my neighbors, the ones who truly give glory to God? Are these my neighbors the kind of people I want to be, and I want my children to be?  Be careful how you answer, remember God is reading your minds and knows your thoughts.  If you are a hypocrite or if you judge by superficials or ethnicities only, God will judge you.

Be mindful.  Be honest.  Be courageous.  Be a true and sincere child of God, and serve Heaven properly.

Obama the Jihadist – Hater and Enemy of Biblical Faith and it’s People

Israel in Prophecy has spent some time reporting and documenting US President Obama’s status and character for some time.  It is our contention that Obama was installed as a ‘Manchurian Candidate’, now borne out by his continuous assault against the American people and it’s long standing traditions.  Many people have contributed in speaking out against his policies, have uncovered the real facts concerning his status as a US citizen and his affiliations with hard-line leftist groups, militant Islamic jihadists, and his complicity with the Power Elite bankers who seek to establish control over all people’s, friends and enemies alike.

While Israel in Prophecy and the Jewish people as a whole disregard the Church’s idea of Jesus as the Messiah, Judaism believes that everyone has the right to express their spirituality as they see fit, as long as it does not interfere with another persons faith.  Obama has shown a obvious hatred of Christians and Jews throughout his tenure as US President, while at the same time elevating Islam, known for it’s hatred toward infidels, it’s torture, murder and mistreatment of women and it’s utter hatred of the Chosen People – Israel – God’s own treasure, a priestly nation (Exodus 19).

During a speech at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, John Brennan, the president’s top counterterrorism adviser, on  Wednesday called jihad a “legitimate tenet of Islam,” arguing that the term  “jihadists” should not be used to describe America’s enemies, but described the violent  extremists as victims of “political, economic and social forces,” saying that  those plotting attacks on the United States should not be described in  “religious terms.”  [see Source].

Excuse me Mr President, but we will continue to use the term jihadist to describe  our Islamic enemies (who are merely acting out their mis-guided religion to destroy and conquer the earth).  It may be a legitimate tenet of Islam but we don’t accept the authority of Islam over other religions or people’s.   If forced conversion or submission to Islamic law by non-muslims is considered legitimate, the next step by a logical mind is to consider Islam as ‘ill-legitimate’ and hostile to the Human Community and Nations and should be OUTLAWED in non-muslim countries who desire to steer clear of the philosophies of lunatics.

Israel in Prophecy is grateful to some of our long time friends who sent us this latest material which establishes without a doubt, Obama’s utter hatred of Israel’s God, and his preference for the demon-god Allah, (may his name be accursed).  We received the following facts from our friends in Israel who discovered it from a website called Wallbuilders featuring an article written by David Barton.  The article is reprinted here in it’s entirety.

America’s Most Biblically Hostile US President

When one observes President Obama’s unwillingness to accommodate America’s four-century long religious conscience protection through his attempts to require Catholics to go against their own doctrines and beliefs, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Catholic. But that characterization would not be correct. Although he has recently singled out Catholics, he has equally targeted traditional Protestant beliefs over the past four years. So since he has attacked Catholics and Protestants, one is tempted to say that he is anti-Christian. But that, too, would be inaccurate. He has been equally disrespectful in his appalling treatment of religious Jews in general and Israel in particular. So perhaps the most accurate description of his antipathy toward Catholics, Protestants, religious Jews, and the Jewish nation would be to characterize him as anti-Biblical. And then when his hostility toward Biblical people of faith is contrasted with his preferential treatment of Muslims and Muslim nations, it further strengthens the accuracy of the anti-Biblical descriptor. In fact, there have been numerous clearly documented times when his pro-Islam positions have been the cause of his anti-Biblical actions.

Listed below in chronological order are (1) numerous records of his attacks on Biblical persons or organizations; (2) examples of the hostility toward Biblical faith that have become evident in the past three years in the Obama-led military; (3) a listing of his open attacks on Biblical values; and finally (4) a listing of numerous incidents of his preferential deference for Islam’s activities and positions, including letting his Islamic advisors guide and influence his hostility toward people of Biblical faith.

1. Acts of hostility toward people of Biblical faith:

  • April 2008 – Obama speaks disrespectfully of Christians, saying they “cling to guns or religion” and have an “antipathy to people who aren’t like them.” 1
  • February 2009 – Obama announces plans to revoke conscience protection for health workers who refuse to participate in medical activities that go against their beliefs, and fully implements the plan in February 2011. 2
  • April 2009 – When speaking at Georgetown University, Obama orders that a monogram symbolizing Jesus’ name be covered when he is making his speech. 3
  • May 2009 – Obama declines to host services for the National Prayer Day (a day established by federal law) at the White House. 4
  • April 2009 – In a deliberate act of disrespect, Obama nominated three pro-abortion ambassadors to the Vatican; of course, the pro-life Vatican rejected all three. 5
  • October 19, 2010 – Obama begins deliberately omitting the phrase about “the Creator” when quoting the Declaration of Independence – an omission he has made on no less than seven occasions. 6
  • November 2010 – Obama misquotes the National Motto, saying it is “E pluribus unum” rather than “In God We Trust” as established by federal law. 7
  • January 2011 – After a federal law was passed to transfer a WWI Memorial in the Mojave Desert to private ownership, the U. S. Supreme Court ruled that the cross in the memorial could continue to stand, but the Obama administration refused to allow the land to be transferred as required by law, and refused to allow the cross to be re-erected as ordered by the Court. 8
  • February 2011 – Although he filled posts in the State Department, for more than two years Obama did not fill the post of religious freedom ambassador, an official that works against religious persecution across the world; he filled it only after heavy pressure from the public and from Congress. 9
  • April 2011 – For the first time in American history, Obama urges passage of a non-discrimination law that does not contain hiring protections for religious groups, forcing religious organizations to hire according to federal mandates without regard to the dictates of their own faith, thus eliminating conscience protection in hiring. 10
  • August 2011 – The Obama administration releases its new health care rules that override religious conscience protections for medical workers in the areas of abortion and contraception. 11
  • November 2011 – Obama opposes inclusion of President Franklin Roosevelt’s famous D-Day Prayer in the WWII Memorial. 12
  • November 2011 – Unlike previous presidents, Obama studiously avoids any religious references in his Thanksgiving speech. 13
  • December 2011 – The Obama administration denigrates other countries’ religious beliefs as an obstacle to radical homosexual rights. 14
  • January 2012 – The Obama administration argues that the First Amendment provides no protection for churches and synagogues in hiring their pastors and rabbis. 15
  • February 2012 – The Obama administration forgives student loans in exchange for public service, but announces it will no longer forgive student loans if the public service is related to religion. 16

2. Acts of hostility from the Obama-led military toward people of Biblical faith:

  • June 2011 – The Department of Veterans Affairs forbids references to God and Jesus during burial ceremonies at Houston National Cemetery. 17
  • August 2011 – The Air Force stops teaching the Just War theory to officers in California because the course is taught by chaplains and is based on a philosophy introduced by St. Augustine in the third century AD – a theory long taught by civilized nations across the world (except America). 18
  • September 2011 – Air Force Chief of Staff prohibits commanders from notifying airmen of programs and services available to them from chaplains. 19
  • September 2011 – The Army issues guidelines for Walter Reed Medical Center stipulating that “No religious items (i.e. Bibles, reading materials and/or facts) are allowed to be given away or used during a visit.” 20

  • November 2011 – The Air Force Academy pays $80,000 to add a Stonehenge-like worship center for pagans, druids, witches and Wiccans. 22
  • February 2012 – The U. S. Military Academy at West Point disinvites three star Army general and decorated war hero Lieutenant General William G. (“Jerry”) Boykin (retired) from speaking at an event because he is an outspoken Christian. 23
  • February 2012 – The Air Force removes “God” from the patch of Rapid Capabilities Office (the word on the patch was in Latin: Dei). 24
  • February 2012 – The Army orders Catholic chaplains not to read a letter to parishioners that their archbishop asked them to read. 25

3. Acts of hostility toward Biblical values:

  • January 2009 – Obama lifts restrictions on U.S. government funding for groups that provide abortion services or counseling abroad, forcing taxpayers to fund pro-abortion groups that either promote or perform abortions in other nations. 26
  • January 2009 – President Obama’s nominee for deputy secretary of state asserts that American taxpayers are required to pay for abortions and that limits on abortion funding are unconstitutional. 27
  • March 2009 – The Obama administration shut out pro-life groups from attending a White House-sponsored health care summit. 28
  • March 2009 – Obama orders taxpayer funding of embryonic stem cell research. 29
  • March 2009 – Obama gave $50 million for the UNFPA, the UN population agency that promotes abortion and works closely with Chinese population control officials who use forced abortions and involuntary sterilizations. 30
  • May 2009 – The White House budget eliminates all funding for abstinence-only education and replaces it with “comprehensive” sexual education, repeatedly proven to increase teen pregnancies and abortions. 31 He continues the deletion in subsequent budgets. 32
  • May 2009 – Obama officials assemble a terrorism dictionary calling pro-life advocates violent and charging that they use racism in their “criminal” activities. 33
  • July 2009 – The Obama administration illegally extends federal benefits to same-sex partners of Foreign Service and Executive Branch employees, in direction violation of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. 34

  • July 2011 – Obama allows homosexuals to serve openly in the military, reversing a policy originally instituted by George Washington in March 1778. 41
  • September 2011 – The Pentagon directs that military chaplains may perform same-sex marriages at military facilities in violation of the federal Defense of Marriage Act. 42
  • October 2011 – The Obama administration eliminates federal grants to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for their extensive programs that aid victims of human trafficking because the Catholic Church is anti-abortion. 43

 Acts of preferentialism for Islam:

  • May 2009 – While Obama does not host any National Day of Prayer event at the White House, he does host White House Iftar dinners in honor of Ramadan. 44
  • April 2010 – Christian leader Franklin Graham is disinvited from the Pentagon’s National Day of Prayer Event because of complaints from the Muslim community. 45
  • April 2010 – The Obama administration requires rewriting of government documents and a change in administration vocabulary to remove terms that are deemed offensive to Muslims, including jihad, jihadists, terrorists, radical Islamic, etc. 46
  • August 2010 – Obama speaks with great praise of Islam and condescendingly of Christianity. 47
  • August 2010 – Obama went to great lengths to speak out on multiple occasions on behalf of building an Islamic mosque at Ground Zero, while at the same time he was silent about a Christian church being denied permission to rebuild at that location. 48
  • 2010 – While every White House traditionally issues hundreds of official proclamations and statements on numerous occasions, this White House avoids traditional Biblical holidays and events but regularly recognizes major Muslim holidays, as evidenced by its 2010 statements on Ramadan, Eid-ul-Fitr, Hajj, and Eid-ul-Adha. 49
  • October 2011 – Obama’s Muslim advisers block Middle Eastern Christians’ access to the White House. 50
  • February 2012 – The Obama administration makes effulgent apologies for Korans being burned by the U. S. military, 51 but when Bibles were burned by the military, numerous reasons were offered why it was the right thing to do. 52

Many of these actions are literally unprecedented – this is the first time they have happened in four centuries of American history. The hostility of President Obama toward Biblical faith and values is without equal from any previous American president.

Eligibility Lawsuit Against Obama Gaining Traction

A hearing, with the apparent support of two state lawmakers, is scheduled before the New Hampshire Ballot Law Commission to hear a complaint filed by Orly Taitz that alleges Barack Obama has used fraudulent documents and a fraudulent Social Security number.

The hearing is scheduled Friday at 2 p.m. in Room 307 of the New Hampshire Legislative Office Building, and Taitz is encouraging the public to be present.

The state holds the first presidential primary Jan. 10, 2012.

On her website, Taitz said state Rep. Harry Accornero had said he was joining in her complaint, and she expects Rep. Larry Rappoport also to be in attendance. The lawmakers could not be reached immediately for comment. “Let’s hope the elections board of New Hampshire will have the decency to refuse [to allow] Obama to appear on the ballot due to undeniable evidence of him using a stolen [Connecticut Social Security Number] … and due to the fact that he is using a computer generated forgery instead of a valid birth certificate,” Taitz wrote.

The Future of the Secular Israeli State

Founder of the State of IsraelThe following post was originally posted on the 1st of September by Moriya’s Place and send to us by our friend Agatha.  Our commentary on the Modern Israeli Government is at the bottom of the post.

Rely only on Hashem, להסתמך על רק הקדוש ברוך הוא 9/01/2011 | Posted by Moriya’s Place

Countless Jews are appalled or dumbfounded. They cannot understand how a Jewish government, backed the Israel Defense Forces, could give away Judea and Samaria, the sacred heartland of the Jewish people to terrorist thugs. The Prophets and Sages of Israel predicted that, in the end of days, the Jews would have such a government. They foresaw that Israel would be ruled by “scorners” of the Torah. These scorners, said the Prophet Hosea (12:1-3), will fill Israel with lies and deception. They will strive after wind (“peace”) and make alliances with Israel’s enemies. The Prophet Isaiah (28:14-18) chastises these insolent Jews. He foretells that they will make a “covenant with death,” but that this pact will not protect them, indeed, that they will be swept away like refuse.

Remarkably, the Targum translates this pact with death as a contract with “terrorists” (mechablim)! Similarly, the Zohar (Exodus 7b) predicts that in the end of days certain Jews in Israel will make an alliance with the enemies of the Jewish people. The Israel-PLO Declaration of Principles fits this dire prediction. In the Talmud, tractate Sanhedrin (98a), we learn that in the end of days Israel will have the “cheapest” government. Only the cheapest politicians would negotiate with terrorist thugs responsible for the murder and maiming thousands of Jewish men, women, and children.

Such shamelessness should make any man of taste want to vomit. This leads me to examine the certain conclusions of Mishna Sotah (49b): With the footsteps of the Moshiach arrogance shall increase and honor dwindle. The government shall turn to heresy [such as secular humanism] and there shall be none to utter reproof. The council-chamber [the Knesset] shall be given to immorality. Galilee will be barren, the Golan shall be desolate, and the dwellers on the frontier [in Judah, Samaria, and Gaza] shall go from place to place with none to take pity on them. The wisdom of their writers [journalists and academics] will become insipid and degenerate [will become morally neutral if not anti-Jewish]; they that shun sin shall be despised. The truth shall nowhere be found [thanks to the university-bred doctrine of relativism]. Youth shall shame their elders, and the elders shall stand up in the presence of youth [a commonplace in democracies] … The face of this generation is as the face of a dog [impervious to shame]… So upon whom can we rely?

Upon our Father in heaven.

● Is it not obvious that the Jews in Israel cannot rely on the opposition parties such as Likud to save them from disaster?

● Is it not obvious, from the experience of Lebanon and Sderot, that Jews cannot rely on the Israel Defense Forces?

● Is it not obvious that Jews cannot rely on rabbis who pontificate about pikuach nefesh?

● Is it not obvious that Jews cannot rely on political and strategic analysts to stop the suicidal course of Israel’s government? ●

Is it not obvious that Jews cannot rely on the United States or on information campaigns (hasbara) to save them from the successors of the Nazis? By now it should also be obvious that it is precisely because Jews have relied on such vanities that they have been given spineless politicians who would sacrifice Eretz Yisrael for mere wind. Finally, consider Rashi’s commentary to Genesis 1:1. If the nations of the world should and say: ‘You are robbers in that you have seized by force the territories of the seven nations,’ Israel can retort: ‘The entire world belongs to the Holy One, Blessed be He. He created it and gave it to whomsoever it was right in His eyes. It was His will to give it to them and it was His will to take it from them and give it to us.’ To whom are these words of centuries ago addressed? Surely, to Jews in Israel today.

But no Israeli government has ever uttered these words. Nor has any religious party in any Israeli government ever made such words its clarion call! You will say: “But the nations will mock these words and laugh at us.” I reply: Have countless appeals to “security” won the supportive concern of the nations? Have ingratiating words about “Israeli democracy” earned the respect of the democratic world? Has willingness to yield “territory for peace” appeased the voracious appetites of Janus-faced Arab despots? Is not Israel despised by the nations no matter how yielding it has been in the “peace process”? I dare say that it is precisely because Jews have not based their claim to Eretz Yisrael exclusively on Rashi’s commentary to Genesis 1:1 that Israel is so often disdained and condemned by the nations! I am not saying that citing Rashi will convince any nation that the Jews have a G-d given title to Eretz Yisrael. The task of the Jews is not to convince the nations of anything! That happens to be the compulsion or futility of assimilated Jews.

Too many Jews—religious included—want to win the approval of the nations rather than the approval of G-d. Legions of religious Jews rely more on politicians and political rhetoric than on the Torah and on the G-d of Israel. This is why the above Mishna indicates that in the end of days, when we have exhausted the heresies of our time and are utterly helpless, that we shall turn to our Father in heaven. This is not a counsel of despair. It is a plea for rational analysis. Stop relying like addicts on failed ideas and flawed politicians. Start proclaiming that G-d alone has given us title to Eretz Yisrael—and never mind the scorners! Just do it and leave the consequences to G-d, Who alone is the Master of war and peace.

Secular Israel Foretold it’s Own Destiny in 1948

We have all seen the great Menorah depicted on Titus’ Arch.  A 7 – branched candelabra supported by a stepped base.  It is without doubt the most famous depictions of the Temple Menorah.  On the Arch the triumphant Roman soldiers cart away the Temple Menorah, showing the power of the Roman State.

When the modern secular Jewish State sought a symbol to represent the new Jewish state, this menorah was chosen, after much debate and consideration.  At first, this would seem appropriate to the unlearned – the Menorah has in the past been the symbol of the Jewish people.  But the depiction of the Menorah on Titus’s Arch is a fraud, a forgery.  One only need to look at the base or pedestal to see the idolatrous images of dragons carved into the pedestal.  There is no possible way that this pedestal ever sat in the Second Temple.  Just years before it’s removal, Pontius Pilate tried to have the Roman Double Eagle Emblem installed in the Temple with terrible results.  The Jewish people opposed this and we quite willing to die right then and there.  Pilate retreated from this attempt to violate the sacred precincts and sought other courses to humiliate the Jewish people.

The Sages record for us in the Talmud that the Menorah had a three-legged base with no images on it.  They are adamant about it.  Some speculation of how the Titus base came into being suggests that the Menorah base was damaged during the War and that Titus commissioned for a new pedestal to be made.  Just the inclusion of the pagan imagery on the base defiles the Menorah and exempts it from any sacred use.

However it served Titus’ purposes well.  His triumphal entry with it and the Temple Sefer Torah in Roman hands showed the world that Israel and it’s religion had gone into exile by Roman efforts.  At least that is what it appears on the surface.  In reality, this pagan Menorah cannot represent Judaism or Israel in it’s truest sense.  At the announcement that Israel had officially adopted the Titus Menorah as the symbol for the new Israeli state, Rabbi Herzog protested on both religious and archeological grounds:

“It is not good what our government does today. Just as we have merited once again the light of Zion that is symbolized by the Menorah, the state chose specifically the image of the Menorah that is on Titus’s Arch, which, it appears, was altered by foreigners…”

But Israel’s choice I believe foretells of their future destiny.  In choosing a fraudulent pagan Menorah over the true Menorah of the beit HaMikdash, the unbelieving modern secularist government has chosen the Menorah of Exile, one which is carried and controlled and altered by the Gentile World.  This is not the true reality.   The true Menorah represents the Light of HaShem which illuminates the hearts and minds of the Jewish nation as a chosen vessel to humanity.

The modern Israeli Democratic government will itself go into exile and be replaced by the True Menorah which is the Light of Israel.  This will be the restoration of the 12 tribed  Davidic Kingdom which the Mashiach will bring in when he comes.  We live in truly remarkable times.  We have an opportunity to see the culmination of what the prophets foretold.   Let us meet it with humbleness and hope.

The Religions of Wood and Stone

In the Book of Devarim (Dueteronomy 4), as the children of Israel were about to enter the Promised Land, Hashem tells them of a time in the far future when they would be exiled among the nations for sins against HaShem and the breaking of the covenant.  During there long exiles they would abandon faith in the God of Israel and would be disobedient to the Torah that they received on Mount Sinai.  HaShem said that they would serve the gods of wood and stone. (vs 4:28)

“HaShem will scatter you among the people’s, and you will be left few in number among the nations where HaShem will lead you.  There you will serve gods, the handiwork of men, of wood and stone, which do not see, and do not, and do not hear, and do not eat and do not smell.” (Devarim 4:27-28)

If one looks closely at this text in the original Hebrew language, some startling things can be seen in verse 28:

כח  וַעֲבַדְתֶּם-שָׁם אֱלֹהִים, מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָדָם:  עֵץ

וָאֶבֶן–אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִרְאוּן וְלֹא יִשְׁמְעוּן, וְלֹא יֹאכְלוּן וְלֹא יְרִיחֻן.

The Hebrew text in red is the phrase that is translated as ‘handiwork of men’ which is a valid translation but often is seen simply as referring to the making of idols – of wood and stone.  But the text says far more than that.  The Hebrew phrase – ma’aseh y’dai adom – is conveying more than simple idol making but is referring to the works (ma’aseh) of the arm (y’dai) of men (adom).  Often in the biblical narrative the arm refers to power or strength.  This phrase has an extended meaning  of the “religion of men.”  The religions of wood and stone are no mere generic references to false religion but identify the two major gentile religions:  Christianity, symbolized by the wooden cross that Jesus died on, and Islam, who worships a black Religion of the Stonestone housed at the Kaaba in Mecca

The Religion of the Stone

The Black Stone (called الحجر الأسود al-Hajar-ul-Aswad in Arabic) is a Muslim object of reverence, said by some to date back to the time of Adam and Eve. It is the eastern cornerstone of the Ka’bah (the “cube”), the ancient building towards which all Muslims pray, in the center of Masjid al-Haram, the Grand Mosque  in Mecca, Saudi Arabia. The Stone is roughly 30 cm (12 in.) in diameter, and 1.5 meters above the ground. Many Muslims believe that the Stone fell from Heaven during the time of Adam and Eve, and that it was once pure and dazzling white, but has turned black because of the sins it has absorbed over the years. Some say that the Stone was found by Abraham (Ibrahim) and his son Ishmael (Ismail) when they were searching for stones with which to build the Ka’bah, around 1700-2000 B.C.E. They recognized its worth and made it one of the building’s cornerstones. It was also said that the stone was given to (Ibrahim) Abraham by the Archangel Gabriel. Non-Islamic historians point to the history of baetylus, or meteorite worship, in pre-Islamic Arabia, and say it is likely that the Stone is a meteorite.  There are an estimated 1.5 billion Muslims in the world.

Religion of the WoodThe Religion of the Wood

Christianity claims that jesus is the Jewish Messiah who came to pay for the sins of Israel and the world.  He was executed on a wooden cross and since that time Pauline Christianity has used the wooden cross as a symbol of Jesus and his mission.  Most Christian churches are adorned with crosses in remembrance of him.  The wooden cross of course come from a tree and there are even references in the New Testament that state that Jesus was hung on a tree.  Deuteronomy 4:28 actually states that the religion of wood is a religion of the tree:

כח  וַעֲבַדְתֶּם-שָׁם אֱלֹהִים, מַעֲשֵׂה יְדֵי אָדָם:  עֵץ

וָאֶבֶן–אֲשֶׁר לֹא-יִרְאוּן וְלֹא יִשְׁמְעוּן, וְלֹא יֹאכְלוּן וְלֹא יְרִיחֻן.

Throughout the Tanakh, HaShem condemned other religions of the wood as idolatrous – such as the pagan religions that worshipped the Asherah pole which was really just a tree that was stripped of it’s branches and decorated.  Additionally, our Torah specifically states that all who hang on a tree are cursed:

And if a man have committed a sin worthy of death, and he is to be put to death, and thou hang him on a tree, his body shall not remain all night upon the tree, but thou shalt in any wise bury him that day (for he that is hanged is accursed of God), that thy land be not defiled which the HaShem thy God giveth thee for an inheritance. (Deuteronomy 21:22-23)

Though Christianity believes the man Jesus was the Messiah, I ask you, would God make a man He Himself has cursed the deliverer of Israel?  Hardly.

If we again return to the Hebrew text of Deuteronomy 4:27-28 we find Torah codes that also connect Christianity and Islam to this verse about the false religions of wood and stone.  A EDL (Equal Distance Lettering) count of 50 letters within these passages identifies both religions.  The green letters reveal the name Yeshu, a specific reference to Jesus.  The EDL count of the orange letters reveals the word Mecca in reverse.  The Hebrew verse numbers (in purple) are not counted as they are not part of the original Hebrew text of the Torah.

Literally centuries before Christianity (1300 years) and Islam (2000 years) were ever conceived, HaShem warned us of them and identified them specifically within the text of our Torah.   Judaism, the One True Faith in the Creator differs from all the other religions in many different ways but only one difference is needed to point out the special character of Judaism from all the rest.  All the many thousands of the worlds gentile religions base their faith in the revelation of one person.  Buddhism, Confucianism, Christianity. Hare Krishna, Islam and all the others are founded upon the teachings of one person who received revelation from god.  Judaism, however, is not based on the revelation of one person.  The Children of Israel journeyed to Mount Sinai and received a national revelation.  Millions of Israelites heard the words of God.  Not a single person but an entire nation.

Any gentile religion, well meaning as they may be, does not represent the true and actual words and teaching of HaShem.  Only Judaism stands alone, separate and heads above the rest of the faiths of the world.  Israel is a chosen people and their faith is undeniably the Truth.

Rav Wolfson on the Death of Bin Laden

On the popular Blog of Rabbi Lazar Brody the following noteworthy posting appeared:

Ishmael's Chief Sar has fallen

In a recent lecture, Rav Moshe Wolfson shlit’a, the esteemed mashgiach (spiritual Dean) of Yeshivat Torah V’Daas said that the fall of a nation is preceded by the fall of it’s sar, or administering angel. Once the sar falls, then the nation will fall. This is based on the Zohar (section 2, page 18a – LB) which says that what the Jews saw on the banks of the Red Sea suf was the sar of Egypt dying. Yishmael has 12 sarim (plural for “sar”).

Rav Wolfson was also quoted as saying (on Monday after morning prayers), “Osama bin Ladin, being the biggest danger to the entire world, had the biggest sar of Yishmael. During these past few weeks as we saw so many entrenched arab leaders, heirs of Yishmael, fall, it is apparent that their defending sar has already fallen and they will continue their downfalls. It is a great thing when sarim fall. The Princes of Yishmael are falling. Bin Laden had their biggest sar. The way the Maharal puts it, he does not have to be a direct descendant of Yishmael. Bin Laden is from the culture of Yishmael.”
